This "not what Americans want" business from Republicans:
Are there reliable polling data that show most Americans don't want HCR in more or less the form of the Senate bill?

1. It's true that Americans don't want HCR as defined by lying Republicans.

3. I always assume there's "reliable polling data" available to back up every thing
they -- and we -- claim.

The people who turn out to see these guys are of course supportive of their approach, as are the people who turn out to see their Dem representatives. So each rep will take away that people are supporting their position.

5. Americans don't want the GOP strawman plan that kills grandma and takes away everybody's coverage
Polling shows however that they do want pre-existing conditions to be covered, the elimination of lifetime coverage caps, etc, etc.

6. If you talk about a government run option like Medicare poll after poll,
some official and some not, indicate that approximately two-thirds of Americans are in favor of it, sometimes more and sometimes less but on an average two-thirds and this has been consistent since the Hillarycare days. Now the Senate bill has not polled favorably, but to hear the Republicans say it, it sounds like Americans don't want government health care at all and that is very far from the truth. I believe there was a poll last week put up here on DU that was done by Newsweek. I'm sorry I don't have the links.

8. And I wonder to what extent the "Obamacare" moniker has sunk in,
especially with low-information people, as something very different from Medicare. Unfortunately, it's different in the wrong direction, as far as I'm concerned.

7. It's quite likely a red state, blue state thing
In the metropolitan areas of this country, HCR is strongly favored, in the rural areas, it's distrusted. Individual congresspersons are going to care more about the pulse they feel from their own state or district, and not from the country as a whole.

10. Most Americans favor not for profit coverage
such as a wide open public option, or Medicare for all.

11. They certainly don't want key provisions in the bill
mandates without a robust public option to choose from, and taxes on their health care benefits.

Democrats could choose not to play into Republican hands, but apparently, they lack even the small modicum of political courage, integrity and fortitude to do so.

Their failure here will cost will likely us all come November.
