HCR: A Chance to Be On the Right Side of History

HCR: A Chance to Be On the Right Side of History

by Femlaw

So in 72 hours, the House will vote on what Speaker Pelosi says is "the most important bill most of us will ever pass".

Our choice is clear. We can do nothing and accept the inevitable result -- more uninsured Americans and spiraling costs. Or we can seize this opportunity to shape our nation's future and begin walking the path of greater justice and more economic stability. It takes courage to act, in the face of uncertainty and risk, but the stakes could not be higher.

History has not been kind to the Democrats who failed to get this through in 1994, not just because they suffered political consequences, but because they left us with a broken health insurance system that is now even harder to fix.

Our elected leaders in Congress must decide, as Change to Win said earlier today, "on which side of history will they stand." We have the chance to stand on the right side of history.

10. What are you talking about? The AFL-CIO and SEIU are backing this bill. They are not fighting it.
They see more good than bad in it.

3. So the "right" side is the GOP side?
Passing 15 year old GOP ideas of Baker and Dole is the "right" side?

Right wing side, yeah, that sounds about right.

5. "Passing 15 year old GOP ideas "
Expanding Medicaid, changing the MLR, lifetime spending caps, subsidies, funding Medicare, etc. are not "15 year old GOP ideas."

8. He made this claim
He claimed that this bill "wasn't all that different" from what Baker and Dole had proposed 15 years ago as a response to Clinton's healthcare proposals.

11. "wasn't all that different" A lot of health bills include
similar provisions. That doesn't change the fact that expanding Medicaid, changing the MLR, lifetime spending caps, subsidies, funding Medicare, etc. are not "15 year old GOP ideas."

12. Except that their bill included some of that.
Just because it's not a photo copy, doesn't mean it isn't functionally the same bill. That's what Obama was saying.

Look, if you support the bill, just support it. Does it matter who wrote it? All I'm saying is drop the hyperbole about what it is. It's health insurance reform based upon fundamentally republican principals of free market control.

13. Because he ran AGAINST this stuff
The amazing part is that more aren't unhappy. He ran against the key features of this bill, and for all the things they took out.

Of course we're unhappy.

are so many dems are not supporting this president. This bill is a start-it can be fixed. Tune into Randi Rhodes right now-she's going to explain all the good stuff it'll do at 5:07
