"If This Bill Is Socialism, Then Why Is The Stock Market Setting New Annual Highs"
Ask your Freeper/Teabagger friends that question. To them, the stock market is the final arbiter for everything, correct?

2. Me neither.
In the end, taxes WILL go up but we will be better off fiscally with a healthier society. If we're going to spend $$ I'd much rather it be spent HERE on our soil with our people than in a foreign land fighting imperialistic wars where people don't want us anyway.

3. Don't tell that to the Right
To them Imperialism is good! Socialism is BAD! When really we don't have socialism, but they'd much rather spend money fighting and warring than helping people that are sick. Talk about a sheer lack of priority.

6. Because of this reason....
How do you think the government funds Trillion+ dollar deficits?

By printing money!

So investots do not want to stay in cash,,,,,they want to own
something tangible such as ownership in a corporation..also
known as the stock market.

It is really very basic.

7. drawing any conclusion from stock market prices, especially short-term prices, is hazardous
and effectively random. prices can jump or sink for all sorts of reasons.
at best they are a distillation of ALL the news on a given day, not just the one story you're interested in.

worse, prices are supposed to move in relation to NEW INFORMATION, not headlines or milestone. so much of the health insurance plan has been known for a long time, and it's become apparent (to all but the diehard republicans partisans) for a long time that SOMETHING would pass that would be called healthcare and most of the remaining topics of discussion weren't especially relevant to stock prices (e.g., abortion language).

so what is the "news"? probably mostly that the fact that it's passing now means that washington can turn its attention to shoveling out more money for a bigger and better jobs bill, which gives companies a boost. that's not exactly an endorsement of the health insurance reform.

8. EXACTLY
Any effect on the stock market was built in close to a year ago.

10. I Understand Your Point and I Agree. However...
To the foaming-at-the-mouth, red faced conservative, the stock market is the almighty arbiter on all things. It's their God, if you will.

And their God is telling them that this HCR law won't negatively affect stock prices because it's NOT socialism.

11. the problem with gods is that it's all too easy to put words in their mouths
they can easily counter that the market is optimistic that passage of this law spells defeat for democrats in the next election and therefore republican tax cuts!

sadly, it's just too easy to make up anything claim the market agrees.

in fact it's a common joke on wall street to claim the market movement on a given day is an endorsement/rejection of some small local trivia like a colleague going on vacation or announcing an engagement or something.

e.g., if i go on vacation and the market tanks, i joke i should ask for a raise because the market sees how indispensible i am.

all very silly.
