The Republican leadership needs to be taught about Lost Time Accidents. (warning :graphic)

If you work in industry, mining or construction, you're familiar with the daily safety talk and the constant hunt for near-misses. Some companies require supervisors to identify and address so many near misses a month. Here's the idea behind it:


Depending on who is doing the counting, for every so many near misses(something that could have been an accident and wasn't), you get a recordable incident (someone ends up going to First Aid)

For every so many recordables, you get a lost time accident (someone misses work)

For every so many lost time accidents, you kill someone.

It's a rule of thumb that holds true; by cutting back on near misses you prevent deaths. By tracking near misses, you can get a handle on the level of safety in your operation.
