PhRMA deal was very smart strategically

People need to get off their high horses. Take the millions PhRMA spent supporting HCR, counteracting the millions the AHIP was spending opposing HCR, and spend it opposing HCR, reinforcing the millions the AHIP was spending. Every $1 PhRMA spent was effectively worth $2 towards HCR.

The PhRMA deal was reprehensible but it was absolutely neccessary. Obama would have been a fool not to join forces with them, HCR would have been defeated and would be politically untouchable for a generation otherwise. Now that HCR has been done future HCR will not seem as unattainable.

Stalin and the USSR were also reprehensible allies but FDR would have been a fool not join forces with them, we would all be speaking german now otherwise.

The FDR analogy would be more apt if FDR had negotiated with the Nazis and given them New England in exchange for not fighting against us in the war.
