When the GOP picks up about 3 senate seats and about 12 house seats in November....

...will they spin it as a great victory?

That's my prediction for the GOP... +3 in the Senate.... +12 in the House.

....and here's the shocker... one of the +3 will be Harry Reid.... which means:

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Shumer

15. At some point perhaps the Democratic majority leader will learn...
...if you won't want to lose your senate seat, BE LIBERAL!!!

This would make 2 in a row...Daschle, then Reid.

2. Schumer would only be marginally better than Reid
He often talks a good game about fighting, but often goes along to get along. He would be better than Reid, but only a little.

3. Somehow I thought Durbin was the likely next-in-line...
Not sure how I came to that belief though.

Doesn't much matter - even my left testicle would be an improvement over Reid.

4. November is still a long ways off. And the Republicans are doing everything they can to piss off
the voters. Also I would not count out Reid. He is going to bring up immigration reform - which will give the Republicans even more opportunities to piss off Hispanic voters and get them fired up to vote in November - Nevada has a significant Hispanic vote - Reid is cannier than people think. Don't underestimate him.

What their talking points will be, that's anyone's guess. They will be in spin mode though.

media and GOP are hoping for.

8. Based on the current data, the count's more like 8 or 9 Senate seats- and about 50 house seats

Reid's almost surely toast- though considering his terrible record, that's a net positive for the Dems.

11. After a year and a half of obstructionism?
Minus 2 in the Senate and minus 6 in the House. That's right: I think they'll go backwards.

The Conventional Wisdom fails to recognize one thing: The voters don't like YOUR Congressman. Unless the guy's a total choad, and the voters in that district don't like total choads, they like THEIR Congressman just fine. I mean, Michele Bachmann is worthless as tits on a boar but the people in MN-6 liked her well enough to send her back to DC once.

Assuming we can find really great Democrats to run against them, I think maintaining the seats we hold in the House plus picking up Bachmann's seat and Boner's seat would be a worthy goal.

12. Forget it. Latest polls have Obama way down, Capitol Hill Dems way down. This is a toxic
political environment. GOP is going to retake Capitol Hill JUST LIKE THEY DID UNDER CLINTON with his endless positive thinking seminars. They're using the Democrats as a punching bag while Obama chuckles at those "silly Republicans." Eternally, Democrats bring a knife to a gunfight. Democrats always think of ONE MILLION excuses not to belt the other side while the GOP does the EXACT opposite. The GOP are fighters. We're not. We just had an entire year of unilateral disarmament on our part.

13. Bull - Another Argument For Inaction and Apathy By Blaming The Democrats
The fact of the matter is that the Democrats and Obama have made tremendous progress pulling the nation back from the brink of a Great Depression. The stimulus has saved millions of jobs. The auto bailout saved the domestic auto industry. The HCR bill was history, and a needed first step. Yes, if you watch Fox News and the rest of the corporate media, you will imagine that nothing got done. Heck, you may even buy into the Frank Lutz talking point that regulation of the financial industry will INCREASE the chance of bailouts.

Seriously, what is the difference between your message and that of Tea Partiers who argue that we should distrust the Federal Government, and particularly the Democrats?

20. The Dems have spent the entire last year backstabbing their constituencies!
and pandering to the most "popular" elements of thew corporate right.

That's not exactly the best way to build enthusiasm or bring out volunteers which Democrats need far more than Republicans do to win elections.

14. Those polls can change and the only poll that matters is the one in November
And last I saw, Obama and Democrats were improving somewhat. Congress even had it's approval go up after health reform was passed. It's not going to be easy, but there's hardly a reason to concede the election.

22. I've missed the polls
that have Pres Obama way down and Capitol Hill Dems way down. Got a link? The polls I've seen have the Pres around 50% pretty consistently and while congressional Dems are down, the pubs are even worse.

Here are my links:

27. Bull.
The GOP isn't nearly as organized as it was in 94, and this time the Democrats didn't fail to pass a healthcare bill.

The Republicans are just as consumed with infighting as they were last year.

21. Since they're aiming
for taking over both houses, I don't see how they'll be able to spin that as a victory. They'll try but they wont be able to pull it off. It'll be like them saying McCain actually won because he won more votes than any other republican presidential candidate.

the GOP which has already proclaimed that they will win back the house and possibly the senate.

29. that's what i've been noticing, they are promising that they will
take both houses, which to me is going to be a massive fail on their part. I think around aug, sept, you're going to start hearing a lot of repugs trying to talk the teabaggers down off ledge of the building.
