Washington Wire: The Other 95% will hold counter-protest to Tea Party rally on National Mall tonite
(Great to hear! But, will they get any cable or network news coverage?)

Tea Party: The Tea Party Express will kick off Tax Day at a morning press conference at the National Press Club where leaders will release a list of candidate endorsements for the 2010 midterm elections. Later, they will stage a “People’s Tax Revolt” with featured speakers including FreedomWorks head Dick Armey, Americans for Tax Reform’s Grover Norquist, Iowa GOP Rep. Steve King, and Georgia Sen. Saxby Chambliss. This evening, FreedomWorks will hold a rally near the Washington monument as well. Meanwhile, a counter-protest group, The Other 95%, a Facebook-generated group, will protest on the National Mall and voice support for Obama’s middle-class tax cuts.

We have two events for Tax Day in Washington, D.C.

We’re heading out there to speak up on behalf of the vast majority of Americans who still believe this country meets its challenges head on with fairness, justice, confidence, and grace. Unlike the Tea Partiers, our message is one of positivity, so please don’t come looking for a fight. We are also supplying signs and flyers with a simple message on Tax Day, so don’t worry about those either.

Event #1: Rally at Freedom Plaza
When: Thursday, April 15th at 11am
Where: Freedom Plaza, Washington, D.C.
We’ll be there – look for our banner!

Event #2: Rally for “the Other 95%”
When: Thursday, April 15th. Start time is 4:30 but swing by as soon as you can after work, we’ll begin staging outside Smithsonian Museum METRO stop. between 3:30 and 4:15.
Where: Between 15th & 16th Streets and Constitution Ave NW. (Map for the evening)

(When you exit the stop walk to the grass on the Mall and there’ll we’ll be near 12th st NW until about 4:30 pm. Then look for our banner in two locations between the Washington Monument and White House! If you have any problem finding us – either in the morning or the afternoon – please call Scott Roberts at 404/964-1918

It should be fun. We look forward to seeing you.

4. Huffpo has video of The Other 95% countering the Tea Party Protests today in D.C.
Edited on Thu Apr-15-10 04:53 PM by flpoljunkie

The Tea Partiers are being countered by a start-up group called "The Other 95%," which descended on D.C. on Thursday to protest "right across from Tea Party rally."

"Obama passed 25 separate tax cuts," Sheryl Stein, founding member of "The Other 95%" said in a statement announcing the group's plans, "including $300 billion in middle class tax cuts -- one of the largest in history - as part of the stimulus package. Unlike President Bush's 2001 tax cuts, which went to the wealthiest 2.2%, President Obama's tax cuts overwhelmingly benefit working and middle class families -- in fact, 95% of all Americans."
