Just curious... the Obama's made $5,500,000 in 2009.
And his book income would have been from earlier than 2009. Michelle isn't on that hospital board anymore... where'd the money come from?

And the POTUS salary is less than 10% of 5.5 Million... just curious.

74. Not only that, they are selling bigger than ever because he
became president. D'uh! And then there's the international market where, unlike Americans, people actually LIKE Obama and want to learn more about him.

3. What kind of question is that? How do you surmise his book income is from one year?
What kind of dodgy math is that?! His books are sold worldwide (and translated in different languages)--which means he's getting revenue regularly. And considering he's the president of the United States---his books are even that more popular. Which means---that's his book money revenue.

I don't see what the big thing is.

You really don't think that being elected president of the United States might boost his book sales a bit?

Because, that's what Business Week is reporting.

Curious, indeed.

23. And the grammy award winning audio book, plus all the money from
the drug trade in Afghanistan, bribes and kick backs from all the corporate crimi8nals he aids and abets, money from terrorists to award him for destroying America and so on.
Since he is pretty honest it will all be spelled out on his tax forms.

Also Michelle charges taxpayers a lot for taking care of his kids and ACORN pays him and George Soros too. In the winter he shovels my drive. He also ghost writes for most authors and on weekend he sings with a jazz band. Week nights he is more easy listening. Michele runs a health food store and sometimes does interpretive dance.

I guess Business Week didn't have the whole story

7. clarification:
Posted April 15, 2010 12:45 PM
by Mark Silva

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama today reported earning $5.5 million last year, with the vast majority of it from the sale of the president's books.

The first couple also paid $1.792 million in federal income taxes, according to their joint federal tax return released today by the White House, on Tax Day.

And they do qualifty for an $8,287 tax return, their 1040 filing shows.

"Barack Obama, author,'' earned $5.66 million from the books and paid $471,000 in commissions and fees, according to an attachment to his tax return.

The Obamas reported donating $329,100 to 40 different charities, the largest donations of $50,000 going to CARE and the United Negro College Fund.

The president, who last year won the Nobel Prize for Peace, also donated the $1.4 million in proceeds from the prize to 10 different charities.

The president did not claim the prize money, or the charitable donation, on his taxes, the White House said, because the IInternal Revenue Code provides that "if the recipient of the Nobel Prize directs the Nobel Committee to donate the prize income directly to charity, as the president did, the recipient does not have to recognize the prize as income on his federal income tax return.''

And he cannot claim the charitable donation on his taxes as a deduction, either.

In releasing their Illinois income tax return, the first couple also reported paying $163,303 in state income taxes.

VIce President Joe Biden and wife Jill Biden reported an adjusted gross income of $333,182 on their tax return released today -- basically the vice president's salary and pension from the Senate. The Bidens paid $71,147 in federal income taxes. they paid $12,420 in Delaware income taxes and $1,477 in Virginia income taxes.

The Bidens contributed $4,820 to charity, in both monetary and in-kind donations.

Sorry, this time of year, that pet peeve becomes a sore spot. Now fucking "journalists" can't even get it right. I saw an online ad the other day that got it wrong, too. "How will you spend your tax return?"

25. His books likely sold in later 2008 and in 2009
I have no idea how often the publisher sends him royalty checks, but it is highly likely that he might have gotten the last quarter of 2008 in January, which would then be 2009 income.

if he doesn't take possession of the money, but rather has the nobel committee write the checks directly to the charities (which he did) it doesn't count as income. He also cannot use the donations as deductions.

52. Not to change the subject to any great degree...
but PO's income from his book is legitimate. I'm also sure that he has quite a few things going on as far as investments go.

On the other hand, where did all of bush and cheney's money come from? I can tell you where a LOT of it came from, war profiteering. bush does not have the brains to write a book, and an army of ghostwriters would have a hell of a time making sense out of anything he had done that could even be slightly perceived as as "good".

cheney on the other hand has been raking in mountains of cash from his various investments in death and destruction. His ties to the military-industrial complex has made him an incredibly wealthy man; to the tune of tens of millions of dollars, virtually all of that cash was sent his way in by the blood of Americans and Middle Easterners. I would actually be surprised to find out that cheney doesn't have stock in the companies that make military coffins, as he would see that as a "plus".

5.5 million pales in comparison to the 12 million Palin got as well. PO is president and held accountable by just about everyone. Palin on the other hand is an idiot that can't "justify" her earning. Then we have Limbaugh...400 million over several years! Just what does that idiot do to create such incredible wealth?
