WI SEN: Thompson Won't Run Against Feingold
A top GOP source close to ex-WI Gov./ex-HHS Sec. Tommy Thompson (R) tells Hotline OnCall that Thompson has decided not to run against Sen. Russ Feingold (D).

Thompson's decision leaves the GOP race to developer Terrence Wall (R), businessman Dave Westlake (R), and ex-WI Dept. of Commerce Sec. Dick Leinenkugel (R), who is expected to announce a run later this month. Wall, a self-funder who poured $1.2M of his own money into his campaign, went up on TV in Feb. with an ad that attacks Feingold. Businessman Ron Johnson (R) may also run.

Meanwhile, for nat'l GOPers looking to add higher caliber candidates to SEN races, the focus is now reduced to WA, where '04/'08 GOV nominee Dino Rossi (R) has yet to announce a decision on a bid against Sen. Patty Murray (D). Rossi, who has already come under attack from the DSCC, may not announce his decision until shortly before the June filing deadline.

2. Some "Year of the Republican" this is shaping up to be
I wonder if they know something the corporate mediawhores don't know (or don't want to tell us). I would think that if Republicans were feeling so good about their chances this year, their "heavy hitters" would be jumping at the chance to take out a potentially vulnerable Dem. (Not that I'm complaining in the least about these new developments).

3. Things are looking better everyday for Democrats everywhere!
Look at Ensign in Nevada, look at McConnell's own home paper calling him out for siding with the big banks...etc. Look at our race here in South Florida, Dem. won by a 2-1 margin! I know that puke governor in VA in stepping in it everyday...Making them less credible.

AND, Scott Brown keeps voting with us!!!

4. Very uplifting news. Plus, I think Russ would whomp him good.
Thompson does not belong in public service generally and in the Senate especially.
