It looks like he's looking for their blessing. Just lay the hammer down on them.

1. Sorry, you're wrong.
He's proven in the past that he will go to "the belly of the beast" and speak the cold, harsh truth. Just watch.

2. This is the first time in my lifetime that these big boys on Wall St...
are running scared. That seems to be the best time to deal with them.

39. Are they? Please. They know they only have to wait until everyone gets bored, then
it's back to business as usual, except probably even more brazen than ever.

3. Maybe if you didn't read the announcement
Per Gibbs:

"On Thursday, President Obama will travel to New York City where he will deliver remarks at Cooper Union on Wall Street reform. Almost two years after the crisis hit and almost one year after the Administration first laid out a detailed plan for holding Wall Street accountable and protecting consumers, he will call for swift Senate action. The crisis has already wiped out trillions of dollars in family wealth and cost over 8 million jobs. The President will also remind Americans what is at stake if we do not move forward with changing the rules of the road as a part of a strong Wall Street reform package."

8. Cooper Union is....
...a.) where Lincoln gave the speech that arguably made him President, and b.) attached to a college that doesn't charge tuition -- that's right, zero dollars -- a philanthropic legend.

I think there are good optics to be had by speaking there.

6. Not a bad idea
He needs to show he's giving them the opportunity to repent, has given them the opportunity to repent, and is still willing to let them repent. But let's face it, wall streets actions, their outright arrogance have only served to make them more hated than ever. GS just order up more huge bonuses to be given out on announcement of the SEC suing them. They are going down.

19. Actually, depending on what he says, it could go either way
One would like to think he learned something from the Bloomberg interview, where he didn't "begrudge" banksters their bonuses and compared them with baseball players....

25. I've heard snippets/reports of him laying down the law, making no effort to
hide he was pissed (this is in a couple of different instances -- don't remember the details) so that's what I'm hoping for again. I'd like to see him just give 'em hell.

And yeah, I'd forgotten about the didn't begrudge remark. He got so much flak from both the Left and Right for that, let's hope he keeps that in mind.

13. Disagree. He's going into "enemy territory to declare war."
So to speak, of course. They aren't really "enemies," they're crooks, aAnd it's not really a "war", it's just sensible regulation. But if Wall Streeters want to turn it into a war, BRING IT.

Have they forgotten how scared they all were last year and in 2008 when the pitch fork crowd was camping outside their mansions? As I recall, some of them were so scared they were asking for personal security even as their firms beefed up office security, and AIG had to change it's name. So, if they want to rile up the pitch fork crowd again, I say . . . go for it!

Remember how people were complaining about Obama when he wasn't doing enough on the HCR?

Well, he should get out there every day and do this kind of job.

Good for him.

20. Yeah, you're the only one.
The fact is that there's Wall Street blood in the water, and we're about to strike, getting something resembling financial reform through Congress.

How long is Mitch McConnell going to be able to get away with lying and filibustering before Obama makes him and his Rethug buddies look like such extreme assholes that even the Teabaggers turn on him?

21. Actions speak louder than words.
He can talk all he wants, but he's not doing nearly enough.

I'm waiting for that revisit of NAFTA. Waiting. . . .

Oh, and what about MFN for China. Waiting. . . .

Nothing is going to happen here unless all people, including blue collar types, have decent job opportunities.

Going after Wall Street is only a small piece of that puzzle, and he's not even really going to do that.

I think ANY time Barack Obama wants to speak about ANYTHING it's a good thing. But this one seems to be a no-brainer.

37. I think it's a great idea...
The damage done by the rampant greed of Wall Street and speculators has quite literally destroyed the financial stability of the nation. The gauntlet has been thrown.

These are the same assholes that said they could regulate themselves, bankers were soon to follow...time and time again, it has been proven that self-regulation is an impossibility. The financial destruction done by these people is almost beyond comprehension, they have left the Middle Class destitute and have created vast wealth for a few that hold immense power.

Under bush, these thieves were given virtually unlimited access to pension funds, and other aspects designed to protect people as they retire, they have stolen money from common workers and risked virtually none of their own assets. It is as if they are in a casino, with your money, and when that runs out, they go to the next account to loot it...never spending a dime of their own ill gotten booty.

If I were in charge, there would be a lot of people under investigation, many would be in prison and I'd tighten the rules to the point where if some billionaire bastard farted, he/she would be up on charges.

For God's sake, we've gotten tot he point where corporate officers drive a company into the ground, then get multi-million bonuses for doing it. We're celebrating and rewarding failure...what the hell kind of crap is that?

My opinion on this is to crush them...simply crush them, and try to find honest people to take over.
