I guarantee the GOP is not looking forward to running against Obama in 2012!!!
He comes across as nice, intelligent and is a viewed as a great leader world wide!!

He cares about people.

He has not went "way left" which takes away a lot of the GOP fake anger. I know some here are upset about that but it makes some sense politically. And he has still pushed a bunch of progressive causes!

He will end the wars before the 2012 elections!

And the economy is coming back slowly!

I guarantee if you were a fly on the wall in the GOP planning meetings, you would hear a lot of "Who in the hell can beat this guy???"

I guarantee they are not feeling good about winning the 2012 presidential election!!!

1. That may be a nice feel good view, but the gop believes their strategy is working
It may or may not be reality, but we should all be very concerned, especially about 2010, and especially since the airwaves have been saturated with the illusion that racism is mainstream

What is happening in az is extremely serious, and directly relates to the hate campaign perpetuated by the republicans, and a lot of the media

Most polls indicate that the Democrats will have some major issues in 2010, and the loss of Kennedy's seat does not a good sign

2012 is too far off, but if we don't retain control of both houses in 2010, I would not be too optimistic about 2012

3. I am optimistic...
I agree the house and senate might be rough but I cannot see any candidate being able to take on Obama on many issues.
I think he will be a better candidate the 2nd time around.

And I am really BIASED! :-)

6. I have no problem with that, I have a problem with how I thought racists policies in the
fifties and sixties were history, are now having a resurgence

I hope the perception that the MSM gives is wrong, and you are right

11. One small, hopeful sign about Arizona
There is a Facebook group called "1 Million Strong Against the Arizona Immigration Law." Yesterday afternoon when I joined it had about 600,500 people. Right now the count is over 800,000. I think there is a lot of passion against this law.

Look at the size of the losses in 1994. Clinton won the next election in 1996. Then he was impeached and he still left office one of the most popular presidents ever (more so than Reagan, for the right-wingers reading). And the Republicans lost seats in the midterm that was held in the middle of the impeachment mess. And then Gore won the NEXT election, regardless of the fact that the Supreme Court installed Bush anyway.

after we were SLAUGHTERED in 1994 and I don't think that 2010 will be anywhere near as bad, particularly with the way things have been going this year so far. If the Republicans win big in 2010 it will likely be more of a result of low Democratic voter turnout than a new lease on (political) life for the Republicans. If they do well in 2010, that will just fire us up even more for 2012 because we all know that they will have to be in thrall to the "teabaggers" and that will not go over well with the vast majority of people. People may be in a sour mood about incumbents this year but they might change their minds once they see what the "teabaggers" have in store for us if they help put a lot of Republicans into office in 2010. Actually, the "teabaggers" could actually benefit us in some races by splitting the Republican vote. They've already succeeded in fracturing the Florida GOP and that would've almost certainly been an easy win for them.

19. but Obama isn't on the ballot
and they realize that. This is also a problem for the dems. People will come out and vote for Obama, other dems not so much.
Now we need to figure out how to get Obama's base out in 2010, because believe me HIS base will be there in 2012!

2. I agree, a campaign creates exposure
When he is reasonable and normal, anyone who heard he was a ranting communist begins to realize that whoever said that he was a crazy leftist was lying or exaggerating.

4. I believe they are getting nervous about the 2010 election, too - they
were telling everyone how they would re-gain control of congress and the governorships, now they are saying they will gain some seats in congress and they are not saying much at all about state and local races. I think we will stay about even, and possibly gain some seats even if we change politicians...getting rid of incumbents does not mean changing parties.

The GOP is always very loud, but they are loudest-and dumbest-when they are nervous.

5. 2010 might not be as good for the GOP as their cheerleaders are claiming

and even if it is, it will likely only be short term IMHO b/c they will inevitably overreach and go (more) nuts with their increased power (but not mandate by any means) which will fire up the Dems for 2012.

7. I think the GOP will nominate a sacrificial lamb in 2012, much like they did in 1996.
Especially if the economy continues to improve and the wars come to an end by that time.

9. Obama
I have always believed he would easily be reelected in 2012.It Is looking more and more it will be
Obama VS Romney In 2012 and Romney couldn't beat Mccain In the primarys In 2008.Huchabee In Iowa, and
Mccain In NH showed even among Republicans Romney's money and Flipflopping couldn't get him the
nomination and In 2012 he Is facing the guy who beat the Clintons(something Republicans couldn't do)
and the Media Darling maverick Mccain In 2008(which romney Couldn't do) and If Republicans were for
shake of argument take a narror marroity In the House(I am not saying they will)they will gurante
Obama's reelection.Bohener IS even stupider than Gingrich.

And more and more this Is feeling less like 1994 and a bit more like 1998.I still except losses but
remember the novemer election back In 1994 was a culmination of a bad year for Democrats.Recent Polls
have good news In Ohio, and we may see In November after all the talk of losing the House and possibly
the Senate(not likely even the most optimist sceniro for Republicans gives then 7 seats and they need 10 or 9+Lieberman officially caucusing/switing parties)the pundits will be faced with the possibilty of only modest losses for Democrats.

17. I agree
I can't imagine for the life of me exactly who they will pick to run against him but, absent any major f***-ups, scandals, or serious neglect leading to severe misery among a lot of people, I can't imagine that they will be able to choose somebody who could successfully against Obama in 2012. By 2012, both "wars" will have ended, the economy should be continuing to improve, and HCR should start to have taken root to a much greater extent. I would expect that the GOP will be forced to run a "sacrificial lamb" although I couldn't imagine who that might be at this point (Romney???). I imagine that they would save any serious contenders for 2016 if they, indeed, manage to continue to exist by that point-which is currently in doubt IMHO. There will, of course, always be a party that will cater to the racists, fundies, and richest one percenters but it may be under a different banner(s) by then the way things are going right now.
