Actor Zach Galifianakis visits the South Lawn during a tour of the White House to watch U.S. President Barack Obama depart in the Marine One helicopter for a trip to Louisiana to witness the response to oil spill damage along the Gulf Coast, from Washington, May 2, 2010.

Andrew Nyman, Associate Professor Wetland Wildlife Management & Ecology of LSU AgCenter, walks next to twisted oil booms at the coast of South Pass, south of Venice, Louisiana, where oil leaking from the Deepwater Horizon wellhead continues to spread in the Gulf of Mexico, May 1, 2010. A huge wind-driven oil slick bore down on the U.S. Gulf coast on Sunday, threatening an environmental catastrophe, and the Obama administration heaped pressure on BP Plc to halt the uncontrolled spill from its ruptured Gulf of Mexico well. Since the explosion and sinking last week of the Deepwater Horizon rig, a disaster scenario has emerged with hundreds of thousands of gallons of crude oil spewing unchecked into the Gulf and moving inexorably northward to the coast.

U.S. President Barack Obama talks after touring the Coast Guard Venice Center in the Gulf of Mexico region to view environmental damage caused by the sinking of BP's oil and gas Deepwater Horizontal drilling rig while in Venice, Louisiana, May 2, 2010. The spreading oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico has the potential to be an unprecedented environmental disaster, Obama said on Sunday.

1. What does that last picture supposed to mean?
Not only has he already sent help, but he is fucking there, on the ground, in the rain.

well, you know, given I'm such an Obama basher and all...
.... it's a photo .... and photography, even journalistic, is an art form. So it's subjective.

If I were caught in the midst of a disaster of this magnitude and Bush was President, would I have gone to the road to meet his motorcade with a homemade sign begging for help?

Probably not .... I think it would have been a waste of my time and effort.

Maybe they're asking for help because they feel they might actually get some this time?

10. If it were bush, and it were me, I might have a sign.
It sure wouldn't be asking for help.

8. in keeping with the katrina meme and devaluing the loss of well over a thousand lives
they watch the news, that's a sure fire way for them to get on cable. those poor suffering women have seen dead bodies floating by and are now homeless. they'll be sent all across the country and be referred to as refugees. it's his katrina and if dehydrated black people could have signs like that for bush why not for obama.

this is not sincere. I know that sounds mean but all the hate and the rightwing/MSM trying to turn this into his Katrina moment is turning me into a cynic. Besides the Coast Guard has been working since day 1.

On to another subject that right wing hack John King just had that failed Bush Homeland Security lady on refuting Janet Napolitano’s statement about the bomb attempt in NYC. Stupid failures should not be used as point persons on the so called “most trusted name in news”. Ugh!

29. That they are people in a crisis situation?
What do you expect them to say?

DON"T send help? We are doing just fine?

What you seem to be objecting to is the reality captured by the photograph.

Every day can't be a sunny happy smiley one....

Louisiana, a red state quite hostile to the president, asking him for help from the government.

Are there no women doing any serious, useful work in this situation, or did the photographer just single out a big "we're helpless victims" moment led by the ladies' auxiliary useless sign contingent?
