From the WH Flickr stream. About as official as you can get before it's officially official.

President Barack Obama meets with Solicitor General Elena Kagan in the Oval Office last month.

And from the news wire....
WASHINGTON - MAY 10: Solicitor General Elena Kagan leaves her apartment building by car on May 10, 2010 in Washington, DC. President Barack Obama is expected to nominate Elena Kagan to replace Justice John Paul Stevens and become the 112th Justice of the US Supreme Court.

1. Its hard to believe he didn't change anything in the Oval Office
Same furniture and rug as Bush. I thought he would want to put his own stamp on it.

2. I see nothing wrong with the perfectly useful and tasteful furniture, rug
and I don't think EVERY thing from Bush remains. At least the stench is largely gone.

I also think that he would spend money elsewhere first, during a recession.

4. I think it was Obama being aware that with an economy in the toilet, why waste money
on furniture and a new rug? Even if it was raised through private sources, it wouldn't look good politically at this time.

7. Actually President Obama DID change some things
He replaced the plates on the built-in wall shelves with books and returned the bust of Winston Churchill and replaced it with one of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
And he replaced a neocon with a thoughtful, pragmatic progressive.
