US: Iraq troop drawdown on schedule
Wed, 12 May 2010 06:23:16 GMT

US President Barack Obama has set the deadline for the withdrawal of US combat forces from Iraq at the end of August 2010. All American troops are scheduled to be removed by the end of 2011.

Despite recent deadly attacks in Iraq, the US military has said it will continue to pull out its forces from the war-torn country in accordance with previously announced schedules.
...

The remarks follow recent speculations that increased violence in Iraq and delays in forming a new Iraqi government could affect the pace of US troops' drawback by about a month.

There are currently 94,000 US troops in Iraq.

This is expected to be reduced to 50,000 by September as promised by President Barack Obama.

9. So far.
I hope it stays on schedule. This month should start the much more increased withdrawal. We have some 44,000 to get out of there in 4 months.

11. Not criticizing the President, but why does it take so long to pull out the troops? Transportation
problems? When they started talking about two to three years ago they kept pushing pullout into the future. Now it's 2011.
