I'm still waiting...

I'm not knee-jerking one way or the other -- I'm not convinced the president's plan is horrible, nor am I convinced it's correct.

The speech was VERY short on specific information. That I do see as a problem, in and of itself. He really does need to convince the public of the rationale for the plan, including a lot more information about the plan itself.

What exactly is the military supposed to accomplish, and how?

What exactly are the criteria for "success?"

How exactly is this a matter of our national security?

Who exactly is going to be in charge in Afghanistan after an army is formed?

What exactly is the plan regarding Pakistan?

How exactly is this necessary for securing loose nukes?

Which countries exactly are with us in this, and in what numbers, and on what conditions? (What's NATO's involvement? What's the position of the UN Security Council?)

I hope details will be explained tomorrow -- and repeatedly -- in very clear terms.

But 1. I dont know how much strategy he can really give in a nation speech (that Bin Laden will be listening to tomorrow and recording a response to that we'll here in a week and a half lol)

and 2. if had answered all of those questions to everyone's satisfaction AND included all of the other things he needed to include. it would have been 3 hours long. ;)

Just a sentence or three about each of those issues would have helped.

I expect details will have to be forthcoming.

..... yesterday, the press jumped on Gibbs when he said he didn't expect the President to address the cost issue in his speech tonight. You clearly heard him do so.

One of many personality strengths is that he listens to constructive criticism and corrects what needs to be corrected.

...be police. I hope this works, and I hope Obama knows something we don't, because I'm not at all optimistic. I'm hopefull, very hopefull. But not optimistic.

and provide all of America's specific tactics to each and everyone watching television.

Obama's comment was, I think, sorta different.

and said basically that he believed God wanted him to wage this war of Good vs. Evil.

I really don't think there's any comparison there.

... he'd have gone off about the need to stop islamofacism, make someone pay for 9/11 and keep soldiers employed.

But he didn't, actually.

It is that he always tries to find the middle ground. He avoids controversy as much as possible and no thinking person could ever call him an extremist. Sometimes that is a great quality to have as a politician, but it can hurt you when you need to lead. This time I would like to have seen him take a bold stand and basicly call for an orderly withdrawal of troops.

We should "surge" into Afghanistan with things like sheep, chickens, greenhouses, seeds, tractors, irrigation equipment, building supplies, and enough money for the villagers that they don't need to take up arms on behalf of the various warring factions just to put food on the table. Most of the Afghans we are holding in prisons over there were hired to fight for about $5/day.
