"Obama to take questions Thursday"

Obama to take questions Thursday

By CAROL E. LEE | 05/24/10 5:41 PM

Amid growing discontent among his press corps about a lack of access, President Obama will take questions from reporters Thursday, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said.

Obama will make a statement after receiving a report from Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on what went wrong to cause the BP oil spill, Gibbs said, after which he will answer some questions.

“I expect that the president will speak to you all about it and answer some questions about it,” Gibbs told reporters in his daily briefing Monday.

1. This is in response to the pressure from the media
...and to a lesser extent from liberal blogs.

3. Not even close! IN fact, they will find fault in most of what he ends up saying,
cause the merry-go-round never stops!

5. And it will be interesting to hear how the press behave....
... no doubt they will NOT talk to him like they talk to Gibbs.

Should be fun.

6. A speech from the Oval office like Reagan did after Challenger
would be easier.

Now, Obama will have to face a press that hates him
almost as much as we hated Bush.

and then his answers will be parsed, scrutinized and combed looking for the
all mighty "Gotchas" by all of this President's nemenis (and there are many).

Guess this guy ain't interested in the easy way out
after all!

Why couldn't he had just done another photo op..... :scared:

9. This type of thing is his forte.
So if there's a chance to pull this out of the fire, this is it. I'm looking forward to it.

18. Because he's not a coward
Hiding from the press is for losers like palin and paul. People want answers (including myself) and look to the President for his leadership here. You're asking him to hide in the Oval Office and I'm a bit surprised by that.

7. Obama is the man!
I think he's gonna show what many of us already know: That he has a firm grasp on the situation and as not just sitting there twiddling his thumbs.

11. Damn...
I do my grocery shopping on Thursdays. Wonder if he'll consider doing this on Wednesday? :-)

I suspect President Obama will have plans (on handling the oil gusher) laid out for us. He doesn't like to jump into press conferences without all the information and plans laid out for everything.

As frustrating as it can be, he thinks everything through till he gets to what he deems to be the best possible course of action.

I expect nothing less in this situation.

I remember when he took on the Republicans on tv and kicked their collective asses without breaking a sweat, he would have never done that if he didn't have all his ducks in a row.

I believe the same about this, all the ducks are lined up. I look forward to hearing what he has to say.

15. Their problem is that he never takes questions from THEM...
..... in the East Room ... that's the only place that counts. Gibbs ongoing series of debates with them about what constitutes a briefing and what doesn't are hilarious .... if you do it at the DC Convention center it doesn't count .... if you take questions from foreign language networks, it doesn't count .... if you talk to Jake Tapper alone in the Blue Room for 10 minutes but NOT with him in the afore mentioned East Room for one question, it doesn't count. It's laughable.

17. Parse Gibbs's statement and you get a different interpretation
“I expect that the president will speak to you all about it and answer some questions about it.”

Whose questions will he be answering? Probably NOT questions from the floor. Maybe they will produce a canned interview like the one that was released with Kagan answering questions from a White House worker.

Better safe than sorry.

20. No amount of explanation even from a gifted orator will bring back that
beautiful marshland or wild life.

Unless he opens with, "I've accepted Ken Salazar's resignation," I have no hope for him to set things right with the people, flora and fauna along the Gulf Coast.

No, not even Obama can make this right...

But he CAN lead. That's what I'm hoping for = LEADERSHIP.
