An old neighbor is coming home for the weekend & Hyde Park is excited
Edited on Tue May-25-10 10:58 AM by wndycty
The past few days I noticed that the there were workers out on the streets preparing to set up barriers, an increase of men walking around with ear pieces and military helicopters flying overhead practicing maneuvers, including one that looked like MARINE ONE. Guess who is coming home for the weekend.

I don't know why by I'm pretty excited.

was Pricess Diana who lived at Kensington Palace which is adjacent to Hyde Park.

6. They were flying up north too?
I wonder if they were practicing different routes relative to his schedule. They were flying north from Hyde Park when I saw them.

10. They are out of town. . .
. . .the only thing that makes sense would be the Blackhawks game, however I don't know if the hockey crowd would respond well to him.

12. Knowing Blackhawks fans like I do (and being one myself). . .
. . .I don't think the larger Blackhawk fan base would be too appreciative of Obama.

20. No root for them. . .its probably more my bias as it relates to the fact that. . .
. . .I don't believe hockey fans, of any team (predominately white) would be thrilled to have the "Black socialist Muslim" in attendance. I'm African American, but every light skinned and when I go to Hawks games I just have a gut feeling that hockey fans would prefer that the game stay white. Dustin Byfuglien and other exceptions aside, I'm not sure how Hawk fans would respond to Obama.

23. Really? I don't get that vibe at all
In fact, I went to a game in San Jose a few years ago and sat next to some really nice San Jose fans who were uber liberals.

There aren't a lot of people of color in hockey, true, but on the other hand, there's plenty from liberal leaning countries. I don't think blacks are left out of hockey, they just don't tend to get the opportunity.

Most of the people I know who love hockey are very left leaning, even those who are Blackhawks' fans.

14. Connect the dots
Obama is a Chicago sports fan.
He recently said that Le Bron would look good in Bull's red.
Le Bron is on vacation, location unknown.

Could Obama be showing Le Bron the town so the Bull's don't get fined for tampering?

Somebody keep an eye out for Jerry Reinsdorf as a dinner guest.

19. Maybe it is only symbolic but after hearing interviews with residents along the coast
it could reassure the people that everything is being done. Have you listened to the likes of Tweety, KO, Rachel & Ed or read the multitude of articles expressing the frustration at the government's response? Many people are getting the impression that this major disaster is not top priority. I think images of the president visiting his hometown, or holding a fundraiser for Barbara Boxer (heard on NPR) will come back to haunt him.

not at all based on fact, but understandable. Superman just can't fly down and fix it all in one fell swoop.

Here are facts:

27. I'm not suggesting he isn't working on this but symbolically he could help calm fears and show
the folks of the gulf that he will be there for them. Certainly FDR did not solve the Great Depression overnight but his repeated reassurance to the downtrodden people gave them confidence and hope that their government was working for them.

My group of friends are ardent Obama supporters and worked to get him elected, but I will tell you that the level of frustration of this is growing and they are appalled he is not reassuring the nation. Don't believe me ...just watch MSNBC line up of progressive anchors tonight and get a feel of the outrage among those who supported him. Read progressive blogs. These aren't RW partisans but political allies who are condemning the WH. The WH certainly has the right to ignore, but photo ops of the president will be used against the president just like those photos of * holding a cake for John McCain during Katrina.

Barack takes Michelle to a Chicago restaurant and you have to get on a waiting list to get reservations after it's reported.
