Don't you just love Democrats? Landrieu: Obama will pay politically for spill
Edited on Thu May-27-10 05:06 PM by Thrill
Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) says President Barack Obama will pay a political price for his lack of visibility in the Gulf region during the catastrophic BP oil spill.

“The president has not been as visible as he should have been on this, and he’s going to pay a political price for it, unfortunately,” Landrieu told POLITICO. “But he’s going down tomorrow, he’s made some good announcements today, and if he personally steps up his activity, I think that would be very helpful.”

Landrieu’s comments came as Obama spoke to reporters in the East Room of the White House, defending his administration’s response to the ecological disaster. The president plans to head to the Gulf to inspect the oil spill on Friday.

But Landrieu, who is seeing her home state’s economy decimated by the spill, said she’s “absolutely not” satisfied with the administration’s response so far. She added, though, that Thad Allen, the former Coast Guard commandant who is overseeing response to the spill, has support from Republicans and Democrats “across the board.”

18. Oh, the Press reads us alright.
If you don't think they have interns checking out what the blogosphere is saying,
and based on it, massaging certain messages in a way to manipulate our reactions,
then what can I say?

Where do you think they get the information that leads the talking heads to say...
"Left Liberal Bloggers are saying....."

Yep...they come here, cause it is easy to get an overall pulse of the blogosphere
simply by landing on any one of our forums. They can tell when we are concerned
about just one issue, and when we are in the majority pissed off at the President.
They wouldn't be doing due diligence otherwise.

20. Yeah, but I'm just a citizen.
What I have to say doesn't have serious implications.

Pols opening their mouths when they shouldn't is much different.

If he worries about the politics = GODDAMN THAT OBAMA FOR POLITICIZING A DISASTER!!!

10. Thad Allen is the one in charge
You can't say he's doing a great job of coordinating government response and then say the government isn't responding.

I am beginning to viscerally hate this little twit and can't belive we all rallied to get her elected.

15. Blue dogs are prized. They actually stand firm and can get their way ...
unlike the progressive caucus. I don't know why those who represent liberals are not ever listened to - much less accommodated. :(

21. but she's right - even if she's a tool of the corporations herself. The chemicals dumped by BP
in the hundreds of thousands of gallons into the Gulf have slaughtered tons of ocean life, that is mostly only visible by going underwater. Scientists are finding piles of dead fish, killed by the chems and oil. Now, if it makes its way to the beaches of Florida in an obvious manner, and causes billions in lost tourist dollars, he very well could lose Florida in 2012.

Remember, over 50% of people polled are giving him "poor" to "very poor" marks on his handling of the spill. He has not been very visible at all for over a month, and that's a mistake that seems short-sighted. He ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS lets these things go on far too long before he finally comes out and says, 'now, any kind of belief that we weren't doing what we should have been is wrong'. Why he waits and allows the impression to build that he really doesn't care shows a disconnect that didn't seem to be there when he was running for office. During '08, he seemed to be so with it, that the person everyone thought would be president the year before (Clinton) had to accept she had been beaten by a fantastically run Obama campaign. Since going to DC, they are not connecting the same way they used to, and he takes the blame often, but that gets old to people struggling to begin with - and now are facing a reduction in income or outright job loss because of a disaster.

I appreciated some of his answers, and others he just sounded like he really had no idea. Of course, 100% adulation and appreciation for his every answer gets ugly attacks here as being anti-Democratic, etc, but tough - I am a queer Christian that has been judged so much in my life, I care not what a few dozen may think on the internet. I have put my safety on the line in Oakland for blacks (I am not black), for women's and homeless rights and I'll be damned if I'm not going to point out that this president has been less than stellar, and appearing aloof and too often, too agreeable, with big biz.

25. Knees-a-jerkin again
Landrieu is just pointing out the reality of the politics of this crisis. The RW noise machine has stoked the "Obama is passive" meme successfully, and Landrieu is simply pointing that out. She'd obviously like a more vigorous response, since this is her backyard, but she's hardly trashing the President.

Jeezus, people, calm down.
