Republican gubernatorial hopefuls Robert Bentley and Tim James could find out later today which one of them is still, well, hopeful.
Final vote tallies from last Tuesday's GOP primary are due to each county party chairman at noon today. State GOP Chairman Mike Hubbard said Monday he expects to have those tallies sometime this afternoon, after which the third-place finisher will have to decide whether to seek a recount.
Bentley, and especially James, have been eagerly awaiting the final tally, which will include provisional ballots not counted last week. Hanging in the balance is which one of the two men finished second to Bradley Byrne in the June 1 voting and will face him in the July 13 runoff.
Unofficial vote totals showed Bentley ahead of James by 205 votes out of more than 492,000 cast in the race for governor.
