1. It looks that way because unsatisfied Democrats have been leaving the party

3. Right
those of us who have been active in the party for years, stuck by it through thick and thin, held our noses and voted for the lesser of evils because of the "D" after their names were never really Democrats because we've finally gotten fed up and are ready to give our time, money and votes to candidates who support progressive causes and who will not sell the working and middle classes out to corporate interests.

Not that anyone will notice when we leave; the people running the party don't think they need the left.

5. I know what's going on in the area I live
and I know a lot of long term activists who lean left who are fed up and ready to walk away from the DFL. These are the people who do the work on campaigns and keep the local party units going between caucuses (as well as organizing those). I can count on one hand the number of people in my district who showed up in 2008 to support Obama who have remained active.

At least around here, it will be painful for the party when we leave because there will be very few left to do the work.

6. "it will be painful for the party when we leave"
The plural of "anecdote" is not "data".

If you don't plan on supporting Democrats in the next few elections, say so in no uncertain terms.

7. Perhaps I should have said it will be painful for the local party unit when we leave

it's a relatively small group and it's about to lose the most diligent workers.

I will support Democrats if they are progressive Democrats. No more voting for a Republican lite DLC types just because they put a "D" after their name.

I used to mock middle & working class Republicans who supported candidates who would work against their interests - I still sneer at teabaggers who do that. I'm not going to fall into the same trap.

9. It's going on in Florida too.
Some of the brightest minds, and tenacious organizers, who've carried the ball for years, are washing their hands and walking away.
