Keith Olbermann Appreciation Thread...
...because he is a true patriot. :patriot:

I'll never stop watching Keith. I value his opinion a lot. I think he reacted to President Obama's speech last night...as we on DU did...as a person who has been immersed in this debate for a long time. He is very knowledgeable. That part of me was disappointed, too, in the speech.

But it wasn't given FOR us.

Keith Olbermann is a patriot.

journalistic criticism? That is why we have a Fourth Amendment.

7. Pretty worthless when the journalistic critic accuses you of not pushing hard enough...
True journalism is suppose to be objective, based in reality and nonjudgemental.

2. It is sad that people require Fox-like cheerleading and
call it journalism. I do not always agree with Olberman. I was sure glad he was there during the Bush presidency.
I want him to call it as he sees it, period. I thought he was a little too critical of the speech, but that was his opinion.

It was not a great speech; in fact, it was not even a good speech. It was a wasted opportunity. He was calling that out.
Should he have lied?

look at Bill Moyers.

thomas jefferson said that "information is the currency of democracy." and we have a bunch of bootleggers pissin in our pockets and telling us its raining. i appreciate those speaking the truth when i hear it. KO is one of the few. i would agree that he is a patriot for that reason. regardless of whether he votes in elections or served in the military.

journalists, as much as they like to think they are. They aren't even fucking close. In fact, I think Morrow would be disgusted with them. There are plenty of good journalists but none of them have a cable show.

Let's face it, they have to give journalistic awards to someone and since they all suck, it doesn't matter much who gets it.

8. I like Keith. I am also free to disagree with him. He got this one wrong, in my opinion.
The speech was for regular non political types.

But KO is not the enemy. We all want the same thing, a move away from dependency on fossil fuels. KO wanted details. Not the time to do it last night. Carter tried with that and it got him no where. Get the people to think about it and agree on it first.

30. I am also free to disagree with...
...Keith, or any other person for that matter. Sometimes I do. :7

I think what got to me last night is watching the speech on C-Span, and then checking out media reaction across the board...MSNBC, PBS, CNN, FOX, etc....and to find ALL of them panning the speech at the same time. It makes it seem as if Keith is piling on at the same time the others are. That was hard for me to take.

But I respect KO and will always continue to, even when I disagree. Last night, I think he actually had a point...it wasn't the speech for those of us who are immersed in the issues of energy and climate change. (Pittsburgh was.) It was a speech to build momentum for change...and that is what I elected Barack Obama to do.

:patriot:

16. I think what made Keith so angry
was Obama's description of the clean up.

Keith sputtered & almost went into a shout there at the end when reminding the viewers of dispersant, chemical poisoning & lack of proper protective clothing.

Keith is getting reports everyday about the atrocities of BP's calling the shots on the clean up,(and lack there of) yet Obama is trying to portray to the public that the government is in charge.

I understand his frustration.

17. thank you for starting this thread
..and I'll take this opportunity to name the two things that I found disheartening about the speech:

1. the naming of a "commission" usually means there will be no real truth-finding and no real accountability. Those of us with a little history recall far too many of these presidential commissions.

2. the praying "to get through this" signified to me a racial or cultural connotation because so many residents of the Gulf region are religious and have leaned on that to get them through other hard times. I don't know if he was trying to evoke a ministerial tone, a la MLK Jr. Perhaps. But so often those people have had nothing but prayer to sustain them, and I thought this might be a calculated suggestion to imply they should endure yet another catastrophe. It made me more afraid for them and for us all.

Back to Keith. He is paid to give his opinion after a presidential speech. He did that. He's by far the most courageous, intelligent, compassionate and fair news man America has had in a while. I fully support him and allow him opinions.

Go Keith.

26. I like Keith Olbermann, and I usually agree with him.
When he's in error, he says so and apologizes for it. How many others do that?

The big issue with Obama's speech last night was the buildup in the M$M. People like Tweety, and Chuck Todd, and other assholes like them. They made this speech out to be something huge. With that expectation going into it, yes, it was disappointing.

Removing the M$M bullshit from the situation, I think Obama did what he intended to do, no more and no less.

And so what? Neither am I!

But we all have our good points,
and that's worth appreciating!

60. I didn't agree with KO or Tweety on the speech last night
Edited on Wed Jun-16-10 04:57 PM by RamboLiberal
But I'm glad that KO, Ed Schultz, Rachel and to a lesser extent Tweety don't march in lockstep like Faux personalities to the party. I'm glad they can take Obama and other Dems to task with equal vigor that they take to the RW. They are truly "Fair and Balanced" unlike the propaganda network that uses that slogan.

And IMHO some DU'ers today are crying like Glenn Beck because KO and Tweety dared to criticize Obama's speech.

I'm not watching MSNBC again.....Waaaaaaaah!

Well fine, the damn RW likes to crow progressive liberal talk doesn't sell soap. Maybe they are right. Sure sounds like it from some of the bawling here today.

Just don't complain when the ratings drop and GE decides to go more Scarborough than Maddow.

He's doing whatever he can to attract viewers... even if they are RW.

91. Wrong - KO's ratings have actually climbed this month
The ratings were in a bit of a funk when he came back after his father's extended illness & death.

But right now his ratings are doing very well thank you. I'm kind of a cable news ratings junky so I look at them daily.

president declared 'mission accomplished' in Iraq" and replaced it with the number of days since the oil spill started. He was in the thousands and stopped for THIS.

Sure he's a progressive voice and we need him. I'm free to be tired of it, however.

I prefer the blowhards of DU anyhow. More informative.

93. Yup.
He comtinues to tell the truth as he sees it, most times I agree, sometimes I don't, but I always respect him and find what he has to say worth hearing.

Those who supported him during Bush but are now tuning him out because of his O criticism are really only mnake themselves look as pathetic as those over at FR who wouldn't tolerate a negative word about W.

Blind hero worship is dangerous shit, no matter which side it comes from.

101. He's been saying "GODDAMN" a lot lately. SOMEONE needs to say goddamnit about oil spill.
As Craig Ferguson said on his show last night (after using a giraffe puppet as a BP spokesman, which was hilarious), "sometimes, only a curse word will do."
