Who here thinks Obama should double down and accept McChristal's apology.
I think it would show Obama as strong and not afraid of anyone.

1. He should accept McC's apology right along with his resignation.

15. From what I've read, I agree.

2. If Obama does not have a good replacement he may not have a choice.
To make the meeting successful each man must be able to save face. I guess we will find out tomorrow just how smart these two guys are.

4. It certainly would keep
McChrystal from running his mouth off and heading out to the highest bidder as a paid anti-Obama shill.

I don't know, though, if Obama can actually force McChrystal to stay on.

5. I think this decision by the President would be a bad one.
He should fire his ass without hesitation. That type of rank insubordination cannot be tolerated. An apology accomplishes nothing.

(did I phrase that reply correctly? anyone offended?)

6. He could keep him on but the level of trust just is not there. I think it is time to
accept McChrystal's resignation.

7. No! It'd undermine military discipline, and undermine civilian control of the military.
Obama must hold the generals to the same standards as other servicemembers, and that means that he needs to bring the hammer down on McChrystal. Fire him.

8. Are you kidding? It would make him look afraid to get rid of a total fuck up.
McChrystal has been a disaster from the get-go.

AND his performance in theater has been a total failure.

Why, oh why, when you top that off with conduct worthy of court-martial, would you let this man lead you by the nose?????

12. It would make him look afraid, I agree. Maybe not afraid, but weak, or at least not in complete
control...UNLESS...McChrystal comes out and issues a strong apology.

Don't know...it's not just how it will look in and of itself, but but more about the general perception after the repukes spin it...

9. The apology is owed. The resignation is necessary.
I think McChrystal himself knows this.

18. Maybe in the civilian world. Not in the military.
At least as far as I (a civilian) understand the military world, there is no way for Obama to keep both this general AND the respect of the rest of the military.

hopefully silencing critics on both sides?

23. I like your idea, demote him so that he has no avenue to spout crap
again.

Suddenly, all the dicks coming out of the woodwork to undermine the President. Apart from Biden, the President has no one to watch his back, kinda sad!

24. That is kind of sad. My sense is that Obama is a loyal person, but it's so difficult
to find in DC. I'm glad he does have Biden (who's intensely loyal, too) and it's good to know that Joe will tell him the truth for the right reasons.

:hi:

17. I would like Pres Obama to tell McChrystal that since he feels the war in un-winnable
with the resources available and the time lines in place, we're withdrawing. He'll accept his apology and charge McChrystal with the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

That's what I'd like to see happen.

22. Just my opinion, the President should accept his apology but don't
fire him. He accepted the position to draw down the troops from Iraq and that is what he should do.

Hold his feet to the fire just like President Obama asked us to do where he is concerned!

If the President accepts his apology, then he will go on faux noise in two days and make more allegations against the current administration.

Like I said, just my opinion! Hold his ass to get the job done as he accepted the job in the first place, if he was not up to it, then he should have declined!
