This extending of Blackwater contracts really SUCKS!
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 05:09 PM by KansasVoter
Why in the hell does this seem to be OK to everyone?

The excuse from the administration is that "they have shaped up their act"! I call bullshit to that story.

We have not really investigated them enough to know if they have shaped up anything.

I love the job Obama is doing, but this cannot really be defended IMO.

Way too much private contractors in this whole war machine for me.

It amazes me how much the administration compliments the troops, but then needs to hire private contractors to do so much "security" work.

I don't get it!!

" provided a bid that… underbid everyone else by about US $26m. And a panel that we had said that they can do the job, that they have shaped up their act. So there really was not much choice but to accept that contract," Mr Panetta explained.

1. Do you have a link for that quote?
Also why does it seem to you that everyone is okay with it?

Not all private contractors are bad, they can and do support the military. This private contractor on the other hand, IS bad.

9. As someone who has served in the military, I will go on record as saying that ...........
ALL military contractors are bad. We are wasting billions of dollars on outsourcing our national defense to a bunch of right-wing mercenaries, especially when we could be saving money by giving the jobs to military personnel. Sadly, most of these military contractors are former military who jumped ship for better money, and not out of a sense of loyalty to our country. They are not beholden to any government, only their CEO and the bottom line of their corporate spreadsheet.

22. +1!
Yes, it is also compromising our military readiness. IMHO, if a war is absolutely necessary it is worth a draft.

5. "...and a panel that we had said that they can do the job...
and that they have shaped up their act." Hum, I wonder how many on the panel have stocks in Blackwater/XE? What a fucking load of bullshit. They shouldn't be allowed to bid, much less win a contract. Underbid my ass...

17. Mercenaries have no place in a Democracy.
Governments hire mercenaries because if do not want their subjects to use military force to overthrow them. What does that tell you?

19. It's Simple: Blackwater Blackmails
Scahill on http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37920685/ns/msnbc_tv-countdown_with_keith_olbermann/">the Olbermann show:

OLBERMANN: So the CIA is hiring Xe? Does Erik Prince have something on Leon Panetta or somebody in the agency? How did this happen?

SCAHILL: I don‘t think he hands secretly on Panetta sex tape or something. But he does have is a 10-year record of participating in direct lethal actions, including the CIA assassination program, carrying out convert actions of the U.S. government around the world, many of which this administration doesn‘t want made public, the CIA doesn‘t want made public. And so, Prince has been engaging in something called graymail, where you essentially are nervous that they‘re going to come after you, so you basically say to them, “I will show them where some of these bodies are buried and I‘ll tell who buried those bodies.”
So, the Obama administration, I think, is playing a very high stakes chess game right now with Blackwater

This crap was never a way to run even a pretend war. Our Lamest Generation strikes again.
