Big Hair Casts Craven Eye Toward White House...
Edited on Wed Jul-07-10 04:33 AM by saltpoint
From the excellent Texas blog, Burnt Orange, comes this tasty little morsel which suggests that Texas Governor Rick Perry, he of the big hair and theocratic bent, may have set as his goal the 2012 Republican nomination for president:

Excerpts:

At this point, all indications are that a foundation has been laid and Rick Perry, along with his consultants and pollsters, are moving forward with that nomination bid.

Rick Perry's consultants and pollsters registered rickperry2012.com as early as April of 2007.

Yuck.

1. Hahaha
That would be awesome. Rick Perry is about as intelligent as a tree stump. He's got no idea just how bad he's about to get smacked down come this November.

Thanks for the link. Burnt Orange is just the best.

5. Hi, blogslut. I agree about Burnt Orange. Those
folks have got it together.

I've heard Perry is about as dumb as he is ambitious, and that ain't good!

2. I'm not sure he can stand the scrutiny
That dumb-fuck piece of shit we call gov has had too many shady deals. He was pushing the Trans-Texas Corridor failure too hard not to have been bribed. The scrutiny of vetting would likely rule him out.

6. That hasn't stopped the Repugs before
Failen Palin had a questionable background yet McLoser picked her anyway.

However; we are stuck in an endless loop with Failen Palin who won't get off of the stage.

7. Interesting point. Yes. In fact, Burnt Orange has
been on their governor's case for a while now.

I imagine they have a very impressive file.

There are possible shady deals and who knows, maybe even a personal revelation or two that might make his fundie nutbag fans a bit edgy.

Just sayin'.

3. I guess to be governor of Texas your IQ has to be under
30 those dipcraps thing that it also applies to president. After all wasn't Bush appointed president by the almost as intelligent republican activist on that court.

4. Is Perry even popular in Texas anymore? He wouldn't have enough of a push to even
win a primary.

8. Good question, Jennicut. I'd surely love it if Bill White
whupped his hindend by double-digits this November.

That would pour some cold water on the Baggers' fire, wouldn't it?

12. It sure would. Perry has a 36% approval rating in Texas per PPP.
He is a weak incumbent governor but it is Texas. Time will tell.

20. Yep. I don't know how that one is going to shake out
but it would be a fine evening to see White win in Texas over Perry this November.

It would lift a lot of boats and would put a really bad candidate (Perry) out of the presidential sweepstakes in one fell swoop.

15. I don't think so
I work in a pretty republican industry and the few people I've talked to none of them like Perry.

I don't like him much myself!

11. The two of them thrown together give a clear idea of how
bad things are for the GOP these days.

I'm trying to see a path for their potential nominees, and I guess Perry's is at least possible, but a lot of really bad Republicans all want the same nomination.

This could get fun.

14. I *think* I feel safe saying the "southern white governor" model of the Presidency is over
As the South is slowly losing its stranglehold on US politics (thanks to demographics) I think we may be moving past the Carter/Clinton/W mold.

19. I give Carter credit for being such a profoundly decent
soul following his presidency and also prior to winning nomination I cheer his eliminating George Wallace.

I did support Ted Kennedy in the primary in 1980 but there was a lot of change in the way people perceived things as a result of Carter's eliminating Wallace in the Democratic primaries in 1976.

Mo Udall was the last liberal standing to Carter's left and I guess up to the Wisconsin primary in 76 he was a few percentage points from winning, which would not have knocked Carter out but would have mobilized the more liberal demographic. At the very least it would have slowed Carter down.

If the South can lose its stranglehold on U.S. politcs (I love your language there...), it would be GREAT with me.
