Politico introduces the new talking point to aid Republican opposition to the President's policies

President Obama's policy time bombs

President Barack Obama has long boasted about the transformative change he’s bringing to the country.

But by the time those reforms finally arrive, he could be long gone from the White House.

Some of Obama’s biggest promises won’t go into effect until long after his first term — and in some cases, well past a second. In fact, buried deep within some of the Democrats’ most significant reform bills are dozens of policy time bombs set to blow at more politically convenient times.

The Democratic reform triumvirate — health care, Wall Street and energy — is filled with provisions designed to front-load policy benefits and delay political pain.

<...>

Perhaps most famously, House Democrats practically demanded that their leaders load the health care bill with goodies that take effect before November’s election, giving them something to sell on the campaign trail.

more

Right, because banning insurance companies from dropping children based on a pre-existing condition in 2010 is better than the provision that implements the same ban for adults in 2014?

Closing the doughnut hole fully is a time bomb?

The exchanges are buried deep in the bill?

1. If it were not for the "blue dog Democrats"
most of the law would be in force by the end of this year.

2. Well there is one
The Cadillac tax on generous health insurance plans is not scheduled to take effect until 2018, after Obama is out.

This delay was put in to get the unions to support the bill, but mark my words, that tax will never go into effect. Around 2016-17 we will start hearing about the "Cadillac tax fix", which Congress will be pressured to pass, to delay the tax's implementation another year or two. And then again and again every year or two after that.

It will be very similar to the AMT patch and the doc fix for Medicare. Just watch.

3. Here's another
the single payer funding doesn't kick in until 2017.

The front loaded claim is bogus.

Also, by the time the cadillac tax kicks it will impact even fewer plans, if any. It was designed to be a deterrent against high-cost, low-quality plans.

4. Me thinks you fail to understand the word "SOME"
I do love the lengths you go to try and defend the indefensible.

that there are some "time bombs" buried in the bill?

Really?

6. You also have a reading comprehension problem.
Politico didn't say there were time bombs buried in the heath insurance bill. They said there are time bombs buried in SOME of their legislation and that is true and has been showcased quite well by Matt Tiabi in several excellent articles.

7. "SOME of their legislation "
And you took that to mean: not health care, even though health care is specifically mentioned in the article?

8. Are you joking?
So, let me get this straight.

Because the health insurance bill is mentioned at one point in the article, every reference to SOME of their legislation then has to be talking exclusively about the health insurance bill?

Want to dig that hole deeper or quit while you are behind?

9. Yes, how dare the House Democrats demand
that the health care bill be loaded with provisions that help people.

Seriously, why do Republicans live in this bizarre zero-sum world where anything that actually benefits people is bad for them?
