Rossi starts fast, raises $1.4 million
Washington Senate candidate Dino Rossi kicked his fundraising off to a fast start, raising $1.4 million after entering the race against Democratic Sen. Patty Murray on May 26.

Rossi raised nearly as much over the last six weeks of the quarter as Murray raised over the whole reporting period. She brought in $1.6 million in the second quarter of 2010 and has a formidable war chest of $6.8 million.

Rossi previously announced raising $600,000 in the week after announcing his campaign, which means he banked about $800,000 in the month of June.

The Republican showed strong fundraising skills during two campaigns for governor, bringing in $6.2 million for his campaign in 2004 and $11.6 million for his rematch with Gov. Christine Gregoire in 2008. Gregoire defeated Rossi both times.

3. $1.4 million is not a "fast" start for Rossi. Considering how little
Republican money had gone into any of the Republican senate campaigns through May. State Republicans were expecting him to raise close to $3 million with at least one third of it coming from Republicans in WA. Instead under $500,000 was raised in Washington state. Close to $1 million is out-of-state money.

In contrast some of the usual big money Republicans from Weyerhaeuser, Simpson and Microsoft have been making modest gifts over time to the Murray campaign. That hasn't changed with Rossi's entry into the race.
