Incumbent Rep. Tim Bishop Snags Indy Line In NY-1

Democrat Tim Bishop has wrapped up the Suffolk County Independence Party endorsement in his bid to remain congressman in Long Island's NY-1.

There are more than 18,600 enrolled IP members in the district, the campaign said.

"I've developed a very strong relationship with Tim Bishop and I am proud to call him my representative," said New York and Suffolk County Independence Party Chairman Frank MacKay.

On Friday, the Independence Party screened Congressman Bishop as well as his three Republican challengers, Randy Altschuler, Chris Cox and George Demos.

"I am proud to continue to enjoy the support of the Independence Party," Bishop said. "Chairman MacKay's support is particularly meaningful, not because he is a political party leader, but because he is a constituent. I will continue to work hard and deliver for all the residents of the 1st Congressional District."
