FL Governorship: Dem takes solid lead in latest Poll
Sink moves ahead

Benefiting from her Republican candidates gashing the heck out of each other, Alex Sink has opened up an unlikely lead in the Florida Governor's race. She's up 36-30 on Rick Scott, with Bud Chiles getting 13% and 37-23 on Bill McCollum with Chiles getting 14%.

Scott and McCollum both have very poor favorability numbers. Their primary battle has completely turned off Democrats and independents, and Republicans aren't seeing them very positively either. 23% of voters have a favorable opinion of Scott while 41% view him unfavorably. While only 34% of Republicans view him positively, 40% of independents and 52% of Democrats see him unfavorably. McCollum's numbers are even worse. Only 16% have a favorable opinion of him with 51% holding a negative one. Just 27% of GOP voters see him favorably, while 59% of Democrats and 57% of independents have an unfavorable opinion of him.

Sink is pretty much a blank slate to voters in the state, with 54% of voters having no opinion of her. Most striking in her numbers is that independents see her favorably by a better than 2:1 margin, 32/15. She is likely benefiting from being able to stay above the fray while the Republican candidates go after each other.

I keep hearing '10 is a bad year for Dems, and certainly they will lose some ground. But in recent weeks we've gotten encouraging polling data showing Dems could gain GOP governorships in three BIG states--CA, FL, & TX and are poised to gain governorships in smaller states like CT and MN (among others).
While we are certainly going to lose Senate seats in states like Arkansas and North Dakota--polling shows democrats competitive in such GOP held seats as OH, NC, MO, and in FL if Crist wins it's a good bet he will caucus with the Dems.

1. In CT we will most likely have a Dem gov. Have not had one in 24 years!
This is great news about Sink too.

2. Yes, there are some states where dems will lose governorships, but there are also several
states where dems are poised to win GOP states, so it may be a stalemate in the Governor races.

4. Redistricting
That is the biggest prize of all. If Dems take the big 3 Governorships mentioned in the OP, they will have a big say in how congressional districts are drawn up.

5. God help us if we get Scott or McCollum
Sink's a big-businesss aristocrat, but McCollum is a wholly-owned subsidiary of any business interest with a dollar to spend, and Scott ... Scott may actually be Satan.

7. Definitely don't want either of them
I am totally tired of all the 'spooky background music' ads done by McCollum and Scott (especially Scott). Your satan comment made me LOL

13. Aren't they both backing an AZ-style immigration law?
McCollum is of course also suing to stop healthcare reform -- and paying a law firm he's buddies with a lot tax dollars to do it. He's a bit a dim bulb in my opinion -- was at a meeting in which he was trying to explain / justify the Bankruptcy Reform Act he and Grassley backed -- he had no idea how his own proposal worked nor any appreciation for the (disastrous) effects it would have.

6. I have never seen any campaign ad for her
but this is good news. Scott is on the airwaves constantly. That alone would turn a lot of people off. Although, I think the Senate race is far more important than Governor's since the next Senator will affect the entire country, not just Florida.

11. She's got almost 8 mil in the bank.
And she doesn't have to spend any of it until after the primary next month.

Just sit back and watch McCollum and Scott destroy each other.

We can thank Scott for one thing. As soon as he started on McCollum, the anti-Sink ads that were running continuously on TV disappeared.

8. This is great news!
Florida could end up with Dem Gov, Dem Senator and a pseduo-Dem Senator (Crist). ;)

9. This would be a monumental gain
Florida Democrats need to get out there and work, work, work. This is a big opportunity and they cannot let it slip away.

15. You're being too nice. Scott must be destroyed. Period.
The audacity of running for governor simply compounds the crime of which he was a part. He should be sent off someplace desolate to ponder his actions.
