Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker edged Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in fund raising for governor for the first half of the year, but Barrett spent less than his Republican opponents, leaving him with more cash on hand.
And former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann once again showed he is willing to pour his own money into the race. Since last year, he has lent more than $2.7 million to his campaign account from the personal fortune he has amassed as a home builder.
The reports filed Tuesday provide the best picture yet of the financial status of the three campaigns, but experts also say that millions of dollars will continue to flow to the candidates between now and election day.
"There is plenty of money on the money tree yet to be shook," said Charles Franklin, a University of Wisconsin-Madison political scientist.
