3. I'm sorry, there is no way I could vote for Greene if I lived in SC.
Electing someone to the office of US Senate should never become such a partisan team sport that we would actually neglect our responsibilities as citizens and contribute to electing a person that is barely mentally or emotionally stable enough to get through daily life. Greene has serious problems upstairs, ones that are debilitating to his own functional abilities. Without a viable 3rd party option leaning towards the progressive side, I would have to break my own rule and not vote at all, if I were a resident in South Carolina.

14. Lesson being what? Democrats will work to elect a mentally unstable man...
...with a very questionable background and give him a very important role as member of the US Senate, just to show you how bad we wanna beat you? Is that really the message we want to sell?

7. Your description fits Jim DeMint.
Just substitute DeMint for Greene in your post.

The results are exactly the same.

DeMint has much more power. I'd vote for Greene if I lived there vs. DeMint.

11. Um no. Greene probably has a medically diagnosable mental problem whereas Demint's is ideological.
Hell, at least Demint is capable of even expressing an ideology.

Regardless, this isn't a defense of Jim Demint by no means, but reality is what it is. Greene likely needs to undergo psychological treament whereas Demint just needs to be voted out of office.

The man's a sociopath. He speaks more clearly than Greene, but he's evil.

12. DeMint also has serious problems upstairs.
Greene seems a little inarticulate. DeMint's a fascist asshole.

I'd go with Alvin.

5. Greene has serious psychological problems
So far we have seen Greene's Air Force records. His Army records are yet to be revealed.

Greene's military record reveals blemishes

(CNN) – New documents indicate that Senate candidate Alvin Greene, a political novice who shocked observers by winning the South Carolina Democratic primary, has a less than stellar military record.

According to records obtained by the Associated Press, Greene was denied two promotions and made "mistakes as severe as uploading sensitive information improperly, and as basic as an overall inability to clearly express his thoughts and perform basic tasks."

The records cover a short, three year period of Greene's service in the Air Force.

Greene was discharged from the military last August.

In another interview, Greene complained that the military was run by terrorists and communists.

Is this the guy you want to support, just because of the stupid letter that follows his name?

I've heard that some Democrats were to run a bona fide candidate as an independent.

Greene wouldn’t specify why he felt discriminated against, other than that he suspected it was for his “general background.” He said his allegation that the military promotes “the terrorists and the communist” is based on the ranked given to Maj. Nidal Hasan, the psychiatrist accused of gunning down 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas, on Nov. 9, 2009.

Greene has often mentioned his military service, saying he first came up with the idea to seek political office while serving in Korea. But the veteran also has refused to go into detail about his service, merely saying he won numerous decorations and left the military honorably but involuntarily.

<snip>

“They dismissed my potential,” Greene said. “They didn’t care what I could do ... like I said, I didn’t get a promotion after I got my college degree. There are very few enlisted troops that have college degrees. ... I was groomed and trained and educated.”

In a performance report in 2004, Greene received adequate marks for performing tasks assigned to him, complying with standards and training requirements. But Greene’s reviewer marked him as an ineffective leader who lacked organization and was “unable to express thoughts clearly.”

Greene is “usually capable of handling mundane tasks with supervision” but is “not able to adapt to any changes to daily routine,” the reviewer wrote, also noting that Greene had received multiple disciplinary actions for failing to perform his duties.

The fact that Greene was left behind when his unit was deployed to Iraq says a lot about him, and the fact he was seen as a liability.

9. I live and vote in SC,

and I'm guessing by the content of this op that you don't.

If Jesus Christ was running against DeMint as a Dem, he couldn't get elected here.

There is no way in hell I'd vote for either DeMint or Greene, but to his credit(and it pains me to say this), at least DeMint is not facing felony charges.

16. Luckily, we have a third choice.
Tom Clements will also be running: http://www.scgreens.blogspot.com/

17. You were right on--until those last three words.
I thought you were referring to the Green Party Candidate, Tom Clements, who is also running. There are actually righties around here who would rather vote for him than DeMented. Probably not enough, however. Especially not enough to counteract the number of Dems who will vote for Greene, because he's a Dem. Too bad. That being said, if Clements wasn't running, I'd vote for Greene, as he's still better than the other choice by a mile.

Wouldn't it be something if Clements won, and SC was the first state to elect a Green Party candidate to the Senate? Won't happen, but it would be great if it did.

If he wins and gets convicted, could be be replaced with a real Dem?
