The President (thru his mouthpiece) just told me to f*** off.
Okay, I'll f*** off then.

I contributed to his Senate run.
I contributed to his Presidential run.
I donated to the DNC for the last 8 years.
I volunteered with the local Democratic Party to get the vote out for Obama in 2008.

Next time some one around here ask me if I'm going to vote for President Obama in 2012 I'll just remind them that he says I'm a drug addled "professional" liberal and he couldn't care less for my vote. Guess what? He lost it.

I will, of course, continue to vote for, volunteer for and donate to Democratic candidates who care about my vote, LISTEN TO ME and support and fight for the policies I think are best for the country.

Do yourself a favor and go check the Greatest Page right now. Virtually all the posts are posts destroying Gibbs and countless DUers like myself who think that what Gibbs said was idiotic and if they think they are going to get reelected with that kind of attitude towards their own base, they are stupider than I first thought.

The "few loud-mouths" on DU are the BOG, maybe 20 or so people who are hell bent on helping our President fail by not holding him accountable.

Obama told the Net-Roots Nation last week that he wanted them to hold him accountable. So I guess you arent taking the Presidents advice.

blamed the liberals of being the cause of his problems. I think they forget who got Obama elected. It was every single one of us who would have preferred Dennis Kucinich but voted for Obama anyway. It was every single independent who didn't want to vote for McCain. It wasn't just the corporate Democrats who put him in office. If it had only been them, then McCain would be President today.

10. Well...
Are you one of those on the left that will "NEVER" be happy with anything the president does? Because that's who I thought he was talking about. I don't think he meant that "anyone" who disagrees with the president, or who wanted "more" out of certain bills that got passed was in that group. I don't thin anyone is completely happy with everything that has been done. What I think he was saying is that some are never happy with what comes about, they "ALWAYS" want MORE! They don't realize that we were lucky to get what we got because not only were republicans voting NO on all the things that have been passed, but some democrats were also voting NO. Right now we have a start on a lot of things, and as someone else said progressives will keep on trying to change things like health care till we do get a single payer system, and they will continue to try and add to bills like the financial reform bill to make it even better. That's what being a progressive is all about, moving on to make things better.

Now I know that a lot of the talk here today is coming from our right wing trolls who want to divide the party, hell that's the goal for being here. I also know that the majority of democrats want "better" bills that what we got, but we did get something that we can build on, and if we got nothing at all, where would we be? Now I read that president Obama has done more than any other president in his first 18 months in the last 50 years. He hasn't gotten everything done he wanted to, but like I said before, he is fighting not only the republicans, but members in his own party. It's not easy to get something passed if there isn't enough votes. Republicans use every tactic in the book to get their members of congress to vote the way their leadership wants them to, but democrats don't do so well when it comes to getting the votes from their own party, let along trying to get some republicans to cross over!

Now you can vote for who you want come 2012, that's your choice, but when we end up with say president Palin running this country, then what? President Obama has a lot of time left in his first term, he can get more done if we keep enough democrats in congress to help him pass bills, and if we can get rid of the DINO's who vote with the republicans, maybe we can get some better bills, and maybe we can add to some of the bills that already have been passed. Now of course if republicans take over congress next year, nothing at all will be done, not one damned thing will get passed, and I don't know about you, but that's not what I want.

I think we should all think about things, and look at all Obama has done since he has been in office and remember that if McCain and Palin where in the WH right now we this country would be in the biggest depression in history right now!

13. Strawman
Edited on Tue Aug-10-10 11:38 AM by zipplewrath
"I also know that the majority of democrats want "better" bills that what we got, but we did get something that we can build on"

Actually, some of the people that Gibbs is complaining about are making the case that they ARE NOT something to build upon, but something that obstructs the ultimate goal.

This would be true of moving, not closing, Gitmo to Illinois and making it a permanent facility for indefinite extrajudicial detentions. It would be a mandate, that is most definitely not something to build on, nor cadillac taxes. It would be escalataing the war in Afghanistan and killling more innnocent Afghans.

If you're going to criticize the left, you could at least address their points.

"He hasn't gotten everything done he wanted to"

Right, he didn't get Specter. Has he done for Sestak what he did for Specter yet? Fund raiser, presidential visits?
He did get Lincoln though, well so far. He did get the mandate he asked for, and he chose the cadillac tax over the increase on the top 2% of wage earners though. And he did get to escalate the war in Afghanistan. They even had a vote on that and he won. So what is it that he's not getting again?

It might really help if the critics of the left would actually argue against the points of the left, instead of making up their own, as Gibbs did recently.

Reactions like this are proving Gibbs' point.

If I were fighting the shitstorm of Republican opposition and Teabagger groundswell of racism that Obama does, and if I still managed to sign some major legislation that no previous recent administrations, be they D or R, managed to do, yet I continue to hear from the Left that I haven't done a damn thing or that they can't tell me from the shitheel who got us INTO this mess that I'm trying to clean up, I'd tell those who are making those assertions that they must be out of their fuckin' minds.

And that was the point Gibbs was making. On those specific assertions.

But if the Left is going to be so wound up they can't handle being called out and cannot get it together to understand the big picture, then it deserves all the loss it brings on itself for setting up the circular firing squad and allowing Republicans, always ready to band together right or wrong when it counts to advance the party, back into power.

This is a lesson that some are very, very slow to learn. And soon there won't be any coming back from it.

35. I don't think President Obama can blamed for EVERYTHING...
people in his administration foolishly says. But, suffice it to say that I'm sure the administration is frustrated. Obama has a lot on his plate, and everytime he turns around some consistently continue to criticize and threaten to jump ship because their specific issue isn't being addressed fast enough. Constructive criticism is fine, but to continuously sling snot and threaten to withdraw support looks really infantile to say the least.

43. Do you always go against your interests if your feelings are hurt?
Al Gore pretty much blew me off when we met a few months before election 2000. I still voted for him. He could have cursed me and my family and I still would have voted for him.

Should I have helped enable Shrub's coronation by abstaining from voting or voting for idiot boy?

I don't understand what kind of logic drives some of you. I really don't.

Wars? Corporate favouritism? Reform that isn't? Undermining public education? Dangling SS over a cliff? Which of these am I supposed to rush to the voting booth to support?

And here's where I feed your last line back to you: I don't understand what kind of logic drives some of you. I really don't.

First, he didn't tell anyone to "f*** off." He leveled a criticism.

Second, do you consider this a description of yourself: “I hear these people saying he’s like George Bush."

76. The President, through his example, just told me that
his signature on the Jobs bill this week acknowledges the suffering many people face and that he is attempting to be as supportive as the Congress will allow.

I have a feeling he must have told some people down in Austin as well, because they appeared to show up for his visit there with cameras and warm smiles.

Let alone be involved in politics. There's no way you've done all you said you did - you'd have been dissed at some point in the process and quit.

There is no candidate that will LISTEN TO YOU. They will listen to others too. Not just YOU.

88. They're not the base....
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 12:08 PM by Jeff In Milwaukee
Let's do some math, shall we?

According to a Gallup Poll from last year, 21% of the voting public self-identify as liberal.

Voter Identification

Now accordinging to a poll from just this week, Obama has the support of 85% of self-identified liberals with 12% expressing disapproval.

Liberal Approval

And so the liberals who disapprove of Obama, the ones Gibbs was talking about, comes to about 2% of the voting public. And if you're a politician and your base is only 2% of the voting public, then you're the candidate of the Green Party.

The cold, hard political calculus is that Obama can abuse this group to his heart's content because a) they're not bloody likely to vote for Sarah Palin in 2012 and b) there are more votes to be gained in the Moderate Middle than there are to lose from the Far Left. So Obama actually gains net support in 2012 by B-Slapping the Jane Hamsher's of the world.

That is the stupidest thing Ive ever read, period.

Gibbs made a very stupid mistake, attacking Obamas base two months before a midterm. He should resign, sooner than later.
