Highlighting Michael Moore's 2004 comment
Edited on Tue Aug-10-10 11:23 AM by ProSense
“The reason why I believe I’ve had this very fortunate success in reaching a wider audience than anyone on the left gets to reach is because I actually put the entertainment and the art before the politics,” Moore said. “It’s very hard for someone on the professional left to put anything ahead of the politics, and that’s why they lose out.

Because nobody wants to listen to that. Nobody wants to be around it. I don’t want to be around it. If you told me this movie, ‘Fahrenheit 9/11,’ it’s just an anti-Bush movie, I don’t know if I would go see it...Why would I waste two hours in the theater to learn that Bush is bad if I already feel that way?”

And he was talking about Bush! If anyone thinks the constant anti-Obama, doom and gloom is playing well with the vast majority of people, they're kidding themselves.

1. Gibbs already retracted, so maybe its time for you to stop
trying to defend comments even Gibbs isn't trying to defend?

Naaaaahhh... keep spinning. It's fun to watch.

3. Good for you. Defend something even he won't.
Way to show everyone what you are made of!

4. The OP is a statement by Michael Moore
It's similar to Gibbs' and it's spot on.

The "professional left" are addicted to complaining and doom and gloom, and have adverse reactions to good news and positive achievements when linked to President Obama.

5. Moore's statement is antithical to Gibbs statement.
It's not at all similar.

Gibbs job is politics, as is Obama's. Moore's job is making movies.

Gibbs retracted. Take a lesson.

6. "Gibbs job is politics, as is Obama's. Moore's job is making movies."
He made a very similar comment in a political context. Bush and the "professional left" are not characters in a movie, nor is his statement about losing framed as a hypothetical.

10. Keep on defending it.
It's fun watching you get your come uppance for all the misrepresentations.

12. Just enjoying watching the problem children squirm.
Yes, I identify those of you who do absolutely nothing but try to defend the most indefensible actions by this administration as "the problem", because that is EXACTLY what you are.

It is because of people like you, who don't even take time to read the links they post to and who are so desperate to defend anything this administration does that we have such crappy and nearly useless legislation to point to. The democrats in office and this administration don't have to worry about getting it right because they can count on sycophants to go out into the world and find any angle to defend their actions.

Wall street reform that doesn't solve the problems? No problem.
Credit card reform that doesn't solve the problems? No problem.
Health care reform that is not only unconstitutional in its execution, but won't accomplish its own goals b/c of the loopholes? No problem.
Dogmatic escalation of the Afghan war, despite all evidence pointing to failure? No problem.

Heck, the press secretary can attack their largest source of money and volunteers... but don't worry, the little sycophants will be right there to defend them.

Only this time, you get left swinging in the breeze and I am glad it exposed as many of you as it did.

15. By "problem children"
do you mean the people having a fit because Gibbs called them out?

Maybe you should take your own advice and stop posting irrelevant responses to posts.

17. No
By problem child I mean people who attempt to defend the administration without first reading the facts or understanding what they are posting.

7. He stood by his original point.
He walked back the more hyperbolic language because a bunch of hypersensitive egos took it way too personally.

13. "It's time for you to stop?" Fuck off. Maybe it's time for you to stop carping.
It got old a long time ago. No one likes to be around an incessant whiner.

Gibbs knows full-well what he said was true. He's slightly backtracking to keep the "professional left" hypocrits from crying like the babies they are. They dish it out, but they sure can't take it.

He knows what he said was true, so he said the opposite today.

You "defend them at all costs" people are too funny today.

19. Your post is in negative recs
Go check the greatest page, you are a small but very vocal minority on DU. Most everyone was offended and angered by Gibbs' statements. How do they expect to win elections when they alienate their base?

Yes we are Obama's base

As much as you hate it.

You need us.

Obama needs us.

He just took a huge shit on us, and you laugh about it.

Good luck in 2012.

Moore's 2004 quote is inconvenient to those in perpetual poutrage on DU.

are inconvenient to the BOG, personally I am listening to the Michael Moore of last night over the Michael Moore of 6 years ago.

25. which is still irrelevant to why the thread is being voted down
Either Moore is flip-flopping or he can't remember what his feelings were in 2004. Regardless, irrelevant. The thread is being voted down instead of his statements being defended.

26. So...
What he said directly about Gibbs last night is irrelevant, but something he said six years ago, in coining a phrase, that he defined in an entirely different manner somehow is relevant?

I think you might be reaching abit.
