Huge turnout for Colorado primary, Romanoff does Fox
Upstart Democratic Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff appeared on Fox to trash the party on election day

BY ALEX PAREENE

According to the Colorado secretary of state, as reported by the National Review, turnout for the Colorado primaries is on pace to exceed the 2008 record. 36% of Democrats and 40% of Republicans have returned their ballots. (Most ballots were sent by mail.)

Democrats in Colorado are, right now, choosing between US Senator Michael Bennet and his challenger, homeless former state legislator Andrew Romanoff. The White House has campaigned hard for Bennet. Bill Clinton signed his name to a letter of support for Romanoff. Republicans can pick former Lt. Governor Jane Norton or prosecutor and non-high-heel wearer Ken Buck.

Turnout this year could double the 2008 record, which would be amazing for a midterm primary election.

Here's a wrinkle: Voters can affiliate themselves with a party the day of the primary election. And upstart Democratic challenger Andrew Romanoff did a Fox News hit at 4 today, during which he trashed the DNC and repeated his claim about the Obama administration offered him a job in exchange for dropping out of the race.

Is he going after "unaffiliated" Obama-hating voters? Stranger gambits have been tried.

1. CQ Politics: Bennet Would Be Stronger Democrat in Colorado

Bennet Would Be Stronger Democrat in Colorado

If he can win his primary today, a new Public Policy Polling survey finds Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) will begin the general election as the favorite to win the U.S. Senate seat to which he was appointed last year.

Bennet leads Jane Norton (R), 46% to 40%, and beats Ken Buck (R), 46% to 43%.

In contrast, Andrew Romanoff will mean the race starts out as a tossup. Romanoff edges Buck, 43% to 42%, but trails Norton 43% to 42%.

2. I don't buy that Romanoff is an ultra progressive but Bennet strikes me as out of his depth
in the Senate. Either way, they are both decent guys though Romanoff seems to be the mores passionate candidate.
The Rethug race is the loony Buck vs the idiotic Norton. Buck might be better for the Dems, another Angle. But if CO got stuck with him...not good.
