6. I Wish I Shared Your Confidence
Most voters have short memories and don't really pay attention. A year ago, polls indicated people trusted Democrats on the economy. Democrats haven't really deviated from the ideas discussed then, but the economy still stinks. Meanwhile, Republicans have nothing but "cut taxes and cut spending." If people were really paying attention, they'd realize that many of them depend upon that federal government spending. The money provided to the states is the only reason municipalities haven't had to close schools, fire stations, etc. Not enough people stop to think "If tax cuts worked so well, why are we continuing to lose jobs even with the tax cuts the Republicans put into place?" or "if tax cuts pay for themselves, why did we have deficits during the Republican years."So, these voters are going to choose "the other guy" (rather than the Democrat) even if that person makes Michelle Bachman look moderate.

let's face it, the economy sucks right now and the Democrats are stuck holding the crap bag.

"It Could Have Been Worse" (Would Have Been Worse) isn't much of a campaign slogan, but I don't know what else we have

5. One is Particularly Laughable
"An international crisis rallied people behind the President and his party"

OK, that's so delusional. If there were an international crisis, the Republicans would start blaming President Obama from Day 1. Remember all the unity in the days after 9-11 and how 90+% of the country loved President Bush? Obama wouldn't even get that. The Republicans play a much meaner game than we do.

If he responded quickly and did a lot to help the international community, it would be "why is helping them when Americans are hurting? (it must be because he's African/Muslim, etc.)"

If he waited to help or had a reserved response, it would be "what a heartless, self centered person he is."

7. The DNC/OFA GOTV effort to get 2008 voters - either new or the ones that only vote in Presidential
elections to vote in the midterms along with the other Democratic voters.

I've been calling elderly voters for my state Dem party/OFA for a few hours the past couple of weeks. I'm checking to see if they plan on voting and if they would like to vote by mail. I've had multiple people tell me they only vote in Presidential elections. Well, this midterm, they will be getting an absentee ballot so they can vote from home - and we will call to make sure they do.

Since they are older, I've also had quite a few say they didn't know if they could vote because they didn't know if they would be able to make it to their polling location - well, Jackpot! they can vote from home and mail it in.

The GOTV effort and Dem party staff & volunteers who work GOTV will determine how we do.

I was just calling known Dems & Obama voters and have run into those folks who didn't think they would be able to vote in November. Now, they probably will.
