O'Donnell Campaign Operated Without A Treasurer, Despite FEC Rules
Christine O'Donnell may have broken campaign finance regulations by operating for months at a time without a treasurer, experts say.

Her campaign committee, Friends of Christine O'Donnell, has seen three treasurers quit, and went more than a year without a designated treasurer.

Campaign committees are required by law to have a designated treasurer at all times in order to collect and spend money, according to experts. But, according to records filed with the Federal Elections Commission, she's gone through several periods with no treasurer at all, including one of more than a year.

"This is a very bad situation," said Brett Kappel, a campaign finance lawyer with Arent Fox in Washington, D.C. "It's illegal for a campaign committee to accept contributions or make expenditures unless there is a treasurer in office. ... The O'Donnell campaign reported raising and spending well over $100,000 in the first six months of 2010 alone."

The campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

1. Well who needs a treasurer anyway? Christine herself
can be the treasurer! A hundred thousand bucks raised? Excellent sum for a petty cash fund. When she wasn't practicing witchcraft Christine could come in to the office and pay a few bills, maybe pick up some clothes, and so forth.

7. I doubt she will - she is shameless in the true meaning of the word. nt
If you think about it, only people who really hold themselves to a high standard of behavior would consider that they are too disgraced to win.

3. Teabaggers make the rules up as they go along
And witchcraft is OK now too. After all, who didn't "dabble" in witchcraft when they were in high school?

10. I think that we should not go with this
It does give Bill Maher lots of publicity and it is funny, but it will have no more impact with the fundamentalists, whose support she needs than any of the pre-"finding God" bad behavior of George W Bush or any of Palin's various baggage. In this case, even for most moderates, the fact that she said it was high school, is sufficient. For the fundamentalists, remember that this was before she found God. It genuinely does not count.

One think to consider is that Karl Rove circled in on that. Now, it could be that he is honest in saying that she is unfit. But, honest and Rove should never be in a sentence unless the word NOT is also there. I suspect that he sees that this issue, sensational as it is, does not harm her and the media pushing something she did as a teen, will strike many as unfair - and we do not need her getting sympathy. Not to mention, what does it crowd out?

For one, it crowds out the issue in the op and the fact that she has not held a money making job for years and has lived off of campaign contributions. Consider how much grief Edwards got because a $500 hair cut was paid by the campaign - even though he immediately repaid the campaign. The fact is you CAN argue that Edwards' charge was legit - the cost was high to get a hairstylist he knew to go where he was. Appearance (especially for him) was important and though getting a local Iowa hair cut might have been an interesting campaign stop, there was some risk that the result could be unsatisfactory. Now, in her case, she spend money in years when she was not even running for anything. There is no way her housing and living costs should have been paid by campaign contributions. (In fact, though less scandalous, isn't this as wrong as JRE supporting his mistress with such funds (if he did)?)

14. Overall, you're right
the witchcraft thing should be just another problem she has rather than the focus. There are many more things of greater substance that are wrong with this woman. And we shall find out more if, as Bill Maher says, it's a hostage situation and he's going to throw out a body for every week she doesn't come on his show. This will only get better.

15. I'm not sure that the witchcraft thing is a serious problem
The fact that she has spent more than the last decade as a professional Christian fundamentalist advocate, who spoke of such things in a cautionary way really means her base will not have a problem with this - she was (almost) lost and then she was saved. Worse things didn't hurt GWB. To be fair, Obama's drug usage and anything he did in college didn't hurt either. In fact, the similarity in the three cases was that they all personally disowned these things. (Remember "young and irresponsible" W. )

The other issues need to be raised very seriously and carefully - and likely NOT by the candidate. The problem is that to many, O'Donnell will seem a "nice girl" - and I intentionally use the word girl, in spite of her being a 41 year old woman. What is clear is her mannerisms when she dispelled the witchcraft thing were very little girlish. I know it is an effective defense mechanism.

11. Another Palin similarity was that BEFORE there was any Democratic
reaction to Bristol being pregnant, Palin accused the Democrats of making her daughter a campaign issue. Making a Palin negative a negative for mean Democrats to some people.

12. The tea-baggers will just say that we need to get the government out of elections
and call for a dismantling of the FEC.

I wish I could say I'm joking but I fully believe that Rush or Hannity will make this type of argument before the election is over.
