Bless his heart..The President just sent me another letter telling
me he needs my help. Third one in three weeks as I recall. So I replied and told him I was about to write him myself. Would love to help but since no chance of an increase in SS, I'm unable to help at this time. You have it backwards Mr. President, I need your help. When that happens, I can help you..Love,

I'm not contributing much to the economy...shame on me.

59. I have learned not to expect much from those who use the "Catfood Commission" term.
Apparently, in this case it takes away the ability to count.

One party has 10 members on the commission. The other, 8:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Commission_on_Fiscal_Responsibility_and_Reform#Commission_members

How many members of the 18-member panel can Obama appoint? Six. The rest are split evenly between House and Senate, Democrats and Republicans.

Of those six members, guess how many were Republicans? Two.

Clearly a 10-8 Dem majority, including 4 out of 6 Obama appointments, is evidence of stacking the commission with Republicans.

Gotta love catfood math.

33. And this is of course unique to Obama and of course...
his fault - right? Problem is he does not determine the SS increase and, at least in my case, people working in the private sector aren't getting huge pay increases either and haven't for quite some time. It's a tough economy and the only reason this post's complaint might be valid is if Obama were personally stopping a SS security increase that was available and he's not which makes this post kind of ridiculous.

I do blame the US Government in general, though. It's amazing what they have money for and what they don't. In every case, the victims are almost always the ones who need any type of help the most. Let's help the people who need it most.

8. I take advantage of the President's website...
And I send him a nice note at least once a month telling him how generous I could be if I had something to be generous with. I think it helps that he knows what we as individuals are facing... and I've seen my concerns noted recently in some of his speeches.

I'm still sitting upright, I still have access to the InterTubes... I figure if I still have time I can waste in there, I'm doing well enough that I don't have to complain. There are a lot more people who are far worse off than I am and I figure working with the administration is going to help them all out a hell of a lot better than working against it... they have the power, after all. If they don't do it for us, no one else will.

51. I am not part of any "swarm"
My opinions are mine and mine alone. Sometimes I agree with people and sometimes I don't. I find personally blaming Obama for a lack of an increase when it's based on a formula that's been in place for quite some time a huge stretch, so, yes, I'll call somebody on it.

And having been here since the beginning of DU, these asinine board wars are ruining this place. People used to be able to be post their opinions without being judged as part of some monolithic force for good or evil. This isn't the first time I've been accused, so I'm sure your friends have me on a list somewhere as some Obama-worshipping groupie.

And sorry, bully tactics are not going to drive me away from a place I've known as my home on the Internet for nearly a decade. Don't dare tell me where I can post or what I should say.

I'm actually very liberal and voted for Kucinich in the primary when my state wasn't in contention -- and here's where you insult my beliefs and integrity -- but I'm also realistic and practical. I don't worship at the altar of Obama and the Dems, nor do I try to bash them on every occasion.

I am an independent thinker who doesn't post knee-jerk reactions in either direction. There used to be a lot more of us here until the extremists from either side started chasing people off with their incendiary squabbles for board supremacy.

Why don't you carry this little note back to your friends?

i give where i think it's needed and i can help.

want my help? what you do in terms of policy (like when they passed health care reform --imperfect as it was) is worth far more in donations from me than a 1000 mail solicitations.

President Obama has recently announced that there will be a one-time $250 stimulus check in 2010 to recipients of Social Security. This bonus check is part of of his ongoing effort to stimulate the economy out of recession. Please note that Congress has yet to approve this bill.

44. Why would anybody, Democrat, Republican or Independent blame Obama for no SS increase?
Social Security increases by law are tied directly to inflation. We are in a two year cycle of stagnation, hence no increases. Perhaps those who are bitching about not getting an increase should be thankful that in inflationary periods they automatically get increases due to Democrats that created Social Security and provisions for increases that were opposed by the greedy Republicans.

so I assume he'll have no power to recommend a decrease either.

It's hard to contribute while his catfood commission is at work, knowing they're chomping at the bit to cut SS benefits. He would have seen a wave of money come in if he had said "and I will not cut SS benefits but am starting the long process of de-funding a bloated military." Wow, the Postal Service would have had to work overtime to handle all the incoming contributions. The enthusiasm alert level would have skyrocketed to the ornage/red level. Instead, they threw a wet blanket on their supporters and now they're begging for last-minute donations.

Why are you blaming President Obama? No POTUS has the power to decree whether there will be a COLA or not.

In fact, he's trying to get a one-time $250 check in your mailbox, if Congress would only approve it:
