Teresa Heinz Kerry received a lifetime award for work for women's health and dignity
“In my life I have been privileged at times to stand with brave men and women as they have fought against inequity and oppression--be it students marching against apartheid in South Africa, Jewish refuseniks demanding basic human rights in the Soviet Union, or older women fighting discriminatory retirement practices in this country. The Americans for UNFPA Award is a true honor,” said the evening’s Lifetime Achievement award recipient Teresa Heinz, Chairman of the Heinz Endowments and Heinz Family Philanthropies. Ms. Heinz championed women’s education around savings and retirement security. Her related advocacy work exposed imbalances in the nation’s social and economic system which put elderly women at risk.

1. Much deserved
womens health and the environment has gotten the short end for too long and she has advanced this immeasurably.

3. I know - and she also got very little recognition in 2004 for any of the work that she had
done for years. In many ways, she was smeared even more than her husband was - and he had the debates where people could see him for who he was. Teresa Heinz is a completely amazing person - and she was long before she married John Kerry. (Before she married John Heinz, she had the guts to march against apartheid in South Africa.)

It was nice to see a photo of her looking well.

5. She does look well.
I hope she is doing well. She is a woman who hasn't gotten the credit she deserves.

4. I'd like to give this a HEARTY K&R
We have had many many women who will go down in history as simply a wife of a politician, and far too few do not get the credit they deserve for the work they do.

Ms Kerry is another one who deserves many many kudos!
