Minorities, how worried are you about this upcoming election?
As a gay man (and a Jew), this election concerns me a lot, not so much because the Democrats will likely lose their majority, but because a far right group will get a foothold in our government.

Consider these insane positions:
- Rand Paul thinks businesses should be allowed to discriminate based on race.
- Joe Miller thinks that unemployment insurance is illegal.
- Sharron Angle opposes abortion for raped women.

In fact many of them--Joe Miller, Ken Buck, Rand Paul, among them--oppose abortion for raped women.

Plus, just about all these people are Creationists, resist the separation of church and state, oppose climate control, and their attitude towards any minority is at least suspect.

To me, this election is about whether the American Nazi's or an American Le Pen will get a foothold in Washington, DC. If they do, and if they continue to disrupt and delay economic growth, there is a danger that they will grow more powerful. I think our nation could be under threat.

2. They don't strike me as all that much different from years of
Republicans before them. The far right has long had a toe in the Congressional pool. The House in particular has some nutters, such as Bachman, there right now and for some time. But the Senate was home to Jesse Helms, for crying out loud. They are all just Republican nuts in the grand tradition. Nothing new but the Tea Bag hats.

5. We could have 7 or 8 new crazed republicans if the teabaggers running for senate
end up winning. That's a huge change in the republican caucus. Add them to the maniacs like DeMint, Coburn, Inhofe, Vitter and a few other and it will be a zoo in the senate.

pounded against by all sides.

I saw it coming, and tried my best to inject rationality into the debate,
but most wouldn't have it. Now, they can have what is about to happen,
and at least I can hold my head up high knowing at least I tried
to bring sanity where they has been none.

I did what I could to keep this disaster at bay;
to keep these bigots in their box.....

I will be GOTV on Sunday, and this upcoming Tuesday.....
to get out those 2008 first time minority voters
here in the East Bay.

Wish I could do more....but it would have taken all of us,
and some of us wouldn't have it.

4. Yes, worried about medical assistance etc. that would destroy the
persons who are disabled. What I find somewhat surprising is that we Democrats did not catch on to their destruction of our entire way of life earlier. They have been talking about it since raygun and we have just now realized how dangerous they have really been. I am very worried about the election - my type of enthusiasm.

6. Our nation is under threat from the right
For months we have seen anti-Democratic support from our own side. There are consequences to those actions.

Now having said that I believe that minorities will get out to vote. The Latino Americans have been insulted by the Republicans for the last year.
Black Americans have seen what utter disregard and disrespect that the Republicans have shown President Obama.
Gay Americans know the truth if Republicans get back in power there will be NO movement in achieving our rights.
Women know that the Republicans want to interfere in their reproductive rights.
Liberals of all persuasions know that Repbulicans will burn down the house.

So I think the results will not match the MSM blowout story. The Repugs peaked too soon. Democratic candidates that were thought out of their races are neck and neck.

Its all about Voter Turnout! GO VOTE!

7. Here's an email that's circulating
in African-American circles. If you like it, paste it into an email and keep it circulating.

----

WE MUST VOTE ON NOVEMBER 2nd AS IF OUR LIVES DEPEND UPON IT, BECAUSE THEY DO! The Republican party has embraced dangerous radicals called the "Tea Party." They are led by Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Rush
Limbaugh, and the owners of Republican supporting TV and radio stations, whose chief goal is to take down President Obama. They also want to end federally run assistance programs that benefit
everyone, including minority groups.

These Tea Party supporters, and Republicans in general, have deep-seated prejudices against blacks,
latinos, and other minority groups. More than anything, they despise President Obama and want desperately for him to fail as our President. If our President fails, we all fail.

Their rallying cry? "We want to take our country back!" Take it back from who and to when? The 1940s or 50s? American soil remains stained with the blood of our African-American brothers and sisters who
protested and fought for our right to vote. Some even died in their pursuit of this basic civil right. The want it take it back alright, take it backwards.

The polls say Republicans have an excellent chance of winning enough seats to take over the U. S. House of Representatives, the U. S. Senate, and many Governorships and State Legislatures because
Democrats lack the enthusiasm to vote. WE MUST GET AS MANY, AND MORE,PEOPLE TO THE POLLS AS WE DID DURING THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

President Obama and Democrats have tried to undo the chaos created by our previous President, but Republicans have fought him every step of the way. We also have to be concerned that the radical
right-wing Tea Party might try to take our country back to a time that was very difficult for minorities. There is concern that the number of hate groups is increasing, and these hate groups are
largely composed of people who openly support Republican Tea Party candidates. Are you willing to gamble on losing the Democratic leadership that is trying to make the country better for everyone,
and not just the super-rich? We cannot let our leadership change or we could lose that gamble.

Don't leave voting to the other guy. Be sure to vote, and vote a straight Democratic ticket for your U. S. Senator, Congressman, Governor, and Democrats down the ballot. Like African drums calling
out across America, reach as many people as you can!

Don't break this chain message or we may find ourselves chained as second class citizens again.

VOTE NOVEMBER 2nd, or before, if early voting is available in your
area.

Please forward this E-mail to 15 or more people and keep it going!

8. Right in the middle. On the one hand
Edited on Sat Oct-23-10 10:53 PM by Kind of Blue
I've felt Jim Crow breathing down my neck since Jan. 21, 2009. But on the other, I've never believed in the enthusiasm gap. So a balancing act for me every step of the way.

Thanks for asking.

9. I'm not all that concerned ..............
Life under Bush was worse and we will still have the Senate. It's not like they're going to bring back separate-but-equal laws.

Here's my thoughts on rethugs and bigotry. There is a small group of rethugs out there who hate people based on their ethnicity, but the bigger bigotry has to do with class. The right-wing upper-class hold disdain for everyone, no matter their skin color or ethnic make-up, who is not as rich as they are or is not willing to bend to their will.

10. I am truly concerned because there is so much hate out there.
However, I can only hope that people across the country will vote their conscience and not easily succumb to GOP hype.

12. This is nothing new. The success of the Republican Party has been the ability
to con and brainwash a fairly large segment of the population that someone is taking something away from you.

The brilliance of the Southern Strategy is that it worked, even for many Democrats who called themselves Reagan Democrats, that minorities/gays/Muslims/brown people are milking the system; demanding 'special rights'; taking jobs from 'hard working' and entitled white men; or, otherwise gaming the government in some way to take from what rightfully belongs to someone else who is more worthy and deserving.

It's up to white people--particularly white heterosexual men--not to fall for it. This is the one group that Democrats have had a very difficult time winning over. And that is precisely due to the Southern Strategy.

And despite the recent love affair for Bill and HIllary Clinton in the mainstream media and among the wingnuts, this was a constituency that Bill himself couldn't win. Yes, he did win Georgia and one other southern state besides Arkansas, but that's it. And, the only reason that he is campaigning in states like WVa and KY rather than Obama is because those are two of the states where Democrats admitted that they couldn't vote for Obama because of his race.

It's up to us to fight back against this Southern Strategy. Rachel Maddow should win a Peabody for her courage and brilliant analysis of what's going on. She's hitting the proverbial nail on the head.
