Democratic Rep. Taylor says he voted for McCain, not Obama
By Jordan Fabian - 10/25/10 01:26 PM ET

Conservative Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) said he voted for GOP Sen. John McCain for president in 2008, not Barack Obama.

The revelation by Taylor, an 11-term incumbent facing a tough reelection battle, is one of the most extreme examples yet of a Democrat distancing himself from his party’s unpopular leaders.

Taylor, who has been taking step after to step to highlight his independence from Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), told a reporter for The Sun Herald of South Mississippi about his secret ballot two years ago.

“I did not vote for Obama. I voted for Sen. McCain,” Taylor told reporter Maria Recio, she said in an interview with The Hill. “Better the devil you know.”

Taylor’s Republican opponent has tied Taylor to Obama and Pelosi in an effort to take advantage of the political tailwinds favoring the GOP.

2. Why would anyone vote for him when they can have the real thing?
Edited on Mon Oct-25-10 01:42 PM by FBaggins
Or put another way... if it's republicans who you are trying to convince to vote for you... why not run as a republican?

And if you're a democrat intending to vote for a democrat... why would you show up at all?

3. Guess what? He wouldn't have voted for Hillary either.
He always hated the Clintons. He voted for all for impeachment articles in 1998 and said that he would not vote for Bill Clinton in 1996.

7. I hope he hasn't received a dime. He may
lose votes because of what he said. Makes people think he can't be trusted to do what he says he will do.

8. A quick search and his own website speaks to the distance he wants
between himself and Dems. His voting record: Palazzo Campaign Based On Lies

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 14, 2010

Bay St. Louis, Miss. - Today, Congressman Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) released the following statement on the lies that Steven Palazzo and the Palazzo Campaign are spreading this election cycle.

"Palazzo and his cronies have spent 100s of thousands of dollars running television ads that lie about my voting record." Congressman Taylor said. "Here is the truth. The 111th Congress convened in January 2009. Since then, I have cast 1,466 votes. Of these 1,466 votes, Nancy Pelosi agreed with my vote 34 times.

"That is 2% of my 1,466 votes."

"Here's a sample of those votes that we voted alike on.

1.To remember the September 11th victims
2.To pay tribute to the House Chaplain on his 10th Anniversary of service
3.To honor the New Orleans Saints for winning the Super Bowl
4.To pay tribute to the victims at Fort Hood
5.To honor Oakland police officers killed in the line of duty

6.To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protests

7.To remember the victims of the earthquake in Italy

8.To remember the Polish victims of the plane crash in Russia

9.To express support for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process

"Even the ultra conservative organization Club for Growth published a report disagreeing with the Palazzo campaign.

Total Votes Cast by Congressman Gene Taylor in 2009 & 2010 1,466

11. in other words, we lose absolutely nothing if he's voted out.
It would be such a tragedy if we couldn't count on his vote to wish some guy "happy anniversary"

13. did he vote for her for speaker?
if so, then he has at least SOME value in that he supports our holding of committee chairs. If not, then he is useless and basically the same as a republican.

He's been in Congress since the 1990s, so you can't blame Rahm for this one...

14. Yeah, and racism didn't play role.
Unfortunately, I spent much of my youth in the South. I have many relatives that live in Dixie. They are racist to the core. Many are fundamentalist hypocrites that are nothing more than beer swilling trash. I lost any respect that I had for organized religion. Religion is a disease.

17. I'm sure Mr Taylor would have no problem with the Democrats in his district...
pulling the lever for the Republican in the general election? Talking about taking the Democrats for granted! Change Parties and let the Republicans vote you in.
