1. Won't they be surprised when they find out that newbie Angle
is SERIOUS about not wanting to bring Federal "earmarks" into the state.

They'll rue the day, if they kick Reid out. Regardless of what national DUers think about him, he's represented Nevada well. They won't have another in his position of influence for a long, long time.

42. He has represented Nevada WELL?
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 08:12 PM by tortoise1956
Take a look at the following links and see how well he has represented my state:

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2009/0724/which-states-get-the-most-federal-money

http://www.trackforum.com/forums/printthread.php?t=115285

The BEST rank we had for return on our federal taxes was 1987, his first year, where we were "only" 41st on the list. It has gotten worse since then.

As for jobs, he has touted the City Center project as creating jobs. I call BS on that one, since they are gaming related. We only have so many tourists visiting, which means that there are only so many jobs.

The energy jobs sound good, but I'll believe them when I see them.

THIS is why Reid is in trouble, and why an extreme candidate like Sharron Angle has a real shot at taking him down...

NOTE:Edited for old link and incorrect statement about layoffs.

2. GOP state senator backs Reid in Senate race

Former GOP state senator backs Reid in Senate race

Associated Press - October 26, 2010 7:55 PM ET

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Mark James, a former state senator and Clark County commissioner, is joining a list of Republicans publicly backing Democrat Harry Reid in Nevada's U.S. Senate race.

James, who served in the Nevada Senate from 1992 to 2002, issued a statement Tuesday, saying defeat of the Senate majority leader "could be devastating" to the state.

Reid is seeking a fifth term and is locked in a brutal contest against Republican tea party-backed Sharron Angle.

Angle's campaign has blamed Reid and the policies of the Democratic administration for Nevada's poor economy.

Reid's campaign calls Angle's conservative positions too extreme.

7. Wrong, we all lose. Reid is a solid Dem. US Senator Angle would validate the nuttiest RW radicals...
... in the country by her mere presence. Sharon Angle and her cohorts are NOT conservative, they are completely off the charts radical and cannot be educated or reasoned with. Being a US Senator is a position of great power and prestige -- don't imagine for a moment that Reid's loss would be our gain.

cause that is what this will be, only with a six year term ...

Fun, and all, but still one of the most powerful people in this country, and shinning light for idiots ...

And, sorry, Angle will like every other one, sell out to DC the minute the election is called, they will do what ALL republicans do ... Run on their soundbites, use their crape to mesmorize people into voting for them, then with a complete sense of self engradizement act like completely craven lunatics when they actuall get into power ...

She will do all that she demonizes now and be as corrupt as they can be ...

11. Neither the Democrats nor the country win if she is elected
It will not be a nightmare for the right. McConnell (oddly now sometimes referred to as moderate mainstream Republican) has opposed EVERYTHING Obama has done. In late 2009, he filibustered a non-controversial defense bill just to keep the Democrats in DC for a weekend - sheer meanness - more than obstruction. How is that far from what McConnell wants to do?

The problem is that budgets HAVE to be passed.

NOTHING good comes of giving the Republicans - particularly the extremists - a foot in the door.

Unlike some namby-pamby Blue Dog types, they know how to capitalize on their opportunities for the party they represent.

9. I agree
We delude ourselves, to our own peril, by continuing to insist the U.S. is a progressive country. If it were progressive, it wouldn't have taken a catastrophic war and 600,000+ dead to end slavery. Nor another 100 years to enact basic civil rights legislation. Nor till the 1920s to give women the vote. We wouldn't still be battling over basic rights for homosexuals. We wouldn't have a plurality still questioning evolution, or denying climate change. We wouldn't have people out in the streets flagrantly and proudly proclaiming their racism and homophobia.

This country, from just my own observation, is backwards, ignorant, god-besotted, and xenophobic. Its citizens are suspicious of and hostile towards intelligence, innovation, scientific discovery, and "The Other" (being anyone not white, not christian, not compliant).

Personally, I'm scared as F about the direction this country is taking. My mother, 82 years old, is having flashbacks to the newsreels coming out of Nazy Germany in the 30s. She said she's glad she's at the end of her life, because she doesn't want to see what's ultimately going to happen. She worries for me. She begs me to remove the Obama stickers from my car, to not mention I'm an athiest. I refuse. I will not capitulate to idiots and bullies.

26. Don't think so. Only 19% identified with Tea Party. There appears to be 25-30%
that have blinders on, are visible, get press, are willing dupes for any filth spewed by Fox, and would vote for any dangerous stooge as long as he/she has proclaimed loyalty to core principles and has been given the thumbs up by Levin, Hannity, Palin, etc..

Unfortunately, 25% of population means about 50% of those who vote...so a fevered minority can pull off elections in their favor.

The rest of the country is much more progressive than that.

31. exactly. the so-called independents do not follow or watch any
thing that would lead them to making a sane decision. like last night on rachel, she asked the miller supports on the corner what they were mad about and they start screaming about obama and holder taking away their guns. and of course you ask where they heard that from and not a one of them can answer the question.

yet we have people who are not voting because they are mad we didn't get universal health care.

12. Reid has had exceptionally high negatives for over 48 months
And- how about we just be honest about it- the guy's been one of the best players on the Republican team.

Reid lucked out on one opponent- she became Chicken Lady, and that was that.

Now the guy has an opponent who, crazy as she is- has a shot at retiring him.

An interesting race, don't you think?

38. One reason is that Nevada has a provision for "none of these candidates"
And it's helped Harry Reid win office in the past.

The question is- will Angle's extremism and contempt for the media and citizenry be enough to overcome their distaste for Reid and choose "none of the above" in sufficient numbers?

Check it out: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/10/13/101995/how-none-of-the-above-could-help.html

14. It's not that they support or like Angle; it's just that they hate Harry Reid so much!
Edited on Wed Oct-27-10 08:38 AM by Liberal_Stalwart71
So much so that women in Nevada will vote for someone who believes that a girl must carry her rapist father's child to term.

So much so that the older community in Nevada will vote for someone who opposes social security and sees it as "welfare," and who vows to "reform" Medicare.

So much so that the people of Nevada will allow someone in the Senate who opposes public education, and doesn't feel that it's her duty to create jobs.

I'm at the point that if this is what the people of Nevada want--because they hate Harry Reid that much--that's what they'll get.

Yes, Angle is crazy, but she will be just one vote in an institution the requires 60 votes to do almost anything. Therefore, her extremist views will not prevail in the Senate. But meanwhile, this is a chance to get rid of Reid who is almost universally loathed.

27. Hey--
not everybody in Nevada hates Harry Reid. In my immediate family there are 8 votes for him, the majority of them already cast in early voting.

And BTW, many of Nevada's Republican establishment has come out for Reid, although most of them reluctantly. Even they don't want the state to be "represented" by a crazy woman who couldn't even work with her own party when she was in the legislature.

Rural Nevada and much of the north of the state is kinda stuck in the early 20th century, or before, politically. The real population bulge is here in Clark County (Las Vegas) which is heavily Democratic. The problem here is insuring turnout. I'm heartened, though, by the fact that the labor union guys have been out in force, going to people's doors just as they did in 2008. Also Angle managed to insult huge groups of people by her comments at Rancho High School. Try both Hispanics and Asians for starters. Then add in everyone with a special needs child in the family (she's against mandates for health insurance to cover autism) and, in fact,
any woman who's ever given birth in a hospital (she's against maternity-coverage mandates, too, although she confusedly called them "Maternity leave.")

We can't tell what's going to happen from the polls at all. We've gotten so many poll callers this past week that my daughter finally got fed up and told the questioner she was going to vote "Tea Party." Of course she didn't do so. And her answer is probaably going to go down in the poll as a vote for Ashcan, since she couldn't bring herself to say Sharron Angle's name. Just a bit of mischief to trip up the conventional wisdom.

So, those of you who're praying people, put in a good word for Reid and Nevada. Angle's election would be an absolute disaster for the state, which is already reeling from high unemployment and the real estate bubble's explosion.
