New Alaska Senate Poll Shows McAdams Surging Past Embattled Joe Miller (at 60% very unfavorable).
New Alaska Senate Poll Shows McAdams Surging Past Embattled Joe Miller

A new poll conducted by Hays Research confirms what we already intuitively know. Alaska U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller’s candidacy is in big trouble.

The percentage of those who feel either “somewhat negative” or “very negative” about Miller has skyrocketed in recent weeks to an unbelievable 68%. Only 8% feel “somewhat negative” and the remainder, a jaw-dropping 60%, feel “very negative” about Miller as a candidate.

A series of gaffes, inconsistencies, and controversial statements to the press, in addition to the arrest of a journalist by Miller security guards have come one on top of another, causing a trend that can only be described as a campaign death spiral. Miller’s hard-core supporters who view him very favorably have held in there, showing a decrease of only 3% since October 6, but his “somewhat favorable” rating went from 20% to 9% in that time. Miller’s “somewhat unfavorable” rating dipped from 13% to 8%, underscoring the voter stampede toward “very unfavorable” which skyrocketed from 38% to 60% in less than three weeks.

If there could be even worse news for the Miller camp it’s that this devastating poll occurred before the headline “Miller’s employee records reveal numerous lies” appeared on newsstands on the front page of today’s Anchorage Daily News, which quotes a damning email in which Miller repeatedly lied about his misuse of Borough computers for political purposes while he wa a part-time lawyer for the Borough in 2008.

This all begs the question, if Miller is hemorrhaging voters, where are they going? The numbers bear out the anti-incumbency sentiment, and voter frustration with the ‘establishment’, because Miller’s supporters seem to be jumping ship mostly for McAdams.

2. McAdams and Meek are my underdogs. Latest polls don't look good for Meek.

But darn it McAdams might take this one home. Woohoo!! :woohoo:

His surge is like the Caprio situation. Caprio went down 12% with voters after his bitching at the President. And it looks like Miller is facing the end with his many dramas----there is just no vetting people any more.

5. +1 My thoughts, too.
Besides the nationally known dirty works of Miller, McAdams as a viable candidate who loves his state must have gotten a boost from his interview on Rachel's show.

4. McAdams is going to win Alaska!
Simply because of the division within the Republican Party. Surprise! Surprise!

6. So sweet.
Right now, he's 6 points ahead of Miller and 5 behind Murkowski!

7. I'm a long way from Alaska but I love the DU Alaskans
on this site who keep us up to date from the great frontier.

This Senate race is a wild one, no question about it.

Miller is bad even for a Bagger. He makes Murkowski look moderate, and Murkowski is no moderate. Far from it, in fact. It's astonishing and dispiriting that someone like Miller has gotten as far as he has, and if these trend lines are an accurate reflection of voters' trust in him, then Alaskan voters' common sense and good judgment are in greater evidence than Miller's dignity. His candidacy has richly earned unanimous rejection by voters.

Not least, if McAdams can win this seat, it would be a truly fine thing.

8. Mc Adams 29 percent, Miller 23, write in 34.
If Mc Adams can pick up just three from the write in then real guess what???

9. As one of Murkowski's stronger arguments is that a vote for McAdams is a vote for Miller,

this poll itself could cause an avalanche of Democrats strategically supporting Murkowski to McAdams.

Yesterday, I saw this column written by one of the "founding fathers" of Alaska in the Anchorage Daily News making a strong case for McAdams. (I know nothing about Alaska, but judging from the comments, he seems very respected.)

Miller's numbers here are breathtaking. I don't think even Cheney got to 60% VERY negative. I can imagine it possible to go from negative to grudgingly voting for someone - but not from Very Negative.

10. I see it as the opposite

Now that Miller is done, dems that were supporting Murkowski in order to defeat Miller,
will now back McAdams. That was the scenario I posted yesterday. I just didn't think it
could happen so quickly!

11. That's what I - obviously inartfully - was trying to say - we agree
I had wondered if there were anything he could do to get people to believe in his chances - but it turns out that there already was movement in that direction. This actually explains why Murkowski put out the anti - McAdams ad. They likely saw his surge in the internals.

If this works out it is so good on so many levels. McAdams seems the genuine real deal outsider that people supposedly want and he has run a very high road campaign. It also will be a total slap in the face for Palin. Within the Republican party she might be blamed for losing Alaska and Delaware in the Senate - a big deal as both these seats were safe for Republicans at one point. (Saame goes for DeMint) It would be nice if part of the narrative (which will be Democratic loses) is that the tea party hurt the Republicans.
