Perspective

Republicans had 178 seats and Democrats had to deal with them. In the minority, Boehner was in the news as much as Pelosi.

Democrats are now the minority in the House. They have not gone away. They will still be a force.

Democrats still control the Senate.

There is one thing that Democrats in the House and Senate share: The President's party.

There is one thing the President has to counter Republican attempts (which aren't likely to succeed, but if they do) to set the country back: a pen.

which is mightier? the pen or the purse? Also, recall the thrill we had then the BP execs were before the Waxmen committee, then imagine the thrill pukes will have with health insurance execs and WH advisor's explaining their role in HCR. There are aspects of yesterday that are difficult to take in.

Ask Bill Clinton. Also, part of the problem with elections is Democrats need to realize that beating the shit out of elected Democrats doesn't translate to making Repbublicans look worse. Destroying is not the same as pushing. On edit: For example, Feingold was running on health care reform and his record on campaign finance reform, an issue that was not played up enough, with some people claiming that Dems do it too. Grayson supported the President's entire agenda, with the exception of calling for an end to the war in Afghanistan. What was he going to run on?

The point is that Republicans were positioned in 1994 to do exactly what they're planning to do now. They will overplay their hand, and unlike 1994, they are not in full control of Congress and this President is going to be fighting to keep his agenda intact and try to accomplish more, and improving the job situation is key. What are Republicans going to do?

12. Shutting down the government didn't work for Republicans

last time. What are they going to defund? The laws are complex and intertwined. If they cherry pick items to defund, it's fairly easy to tell the people affected that Republicans are holding up their money.
