qualify a President as "non-petty," but in my view, he is coming across as weak. I want a fighter.

Republicans in Congress do not care about the country. They only care about the President not succeeding. They don't want any policies that will benefit the middle class and poor. And they won't compromise - I think the only thing they can agree on is day of the week, and even that might be in question. So the President needs to be stronger than the last two years, or any progress could be reversed. I want to hear that fighting spirit, because the Repukes certainly will fight.

the President is supposed to emphasize that Republicans have been blocking his agenda and refusing to cooperate. He should have stressed that they are do nothing obstructionists. That would be the message to send to the electorate: You stupid people allowed these morons to win.

What the hell do you expect the man to do? Threaten the entire Republican caucus to a fucking fistfight? We got pasted -- now we regroup and move forward in the new environment.

Haven't any of you people every seen a party lose a fucking election before? This is NOT our first time to this rodeo, kids. Let's dust ourselves off, realize we lost because people were pissed about the economy and do what we need to do to claw back some seats in the next couple cycles.

Parties lose majorities. Then they struggle. Then they regain them. This is politics, and it's why every time somebody predicts a "permanent Republican majority" or "the death of the Republican party" they look like friggin' idiots.

I most certainly hope that the Democratic Party prevails. I just don't happen to agree with his approach since it has obliviously not been very fruitful. FDR,I believe had it right and had no problem in challenging the wealth and welcomed the hatred.

I don't in the least minimize the great challenge that President Obama faced. His approach didn't deter me and I worked for our local candidates and voted a straight Democratic ticket. In my lifetime I fought for the union and was a steward. I watched as young worker gladly accepted the benefits that were hard won by the union members and the swallowed the management's propaganda hook, line and sinker. They took damn good care of them; outsourced their jobs, cut their pensions and canceled their health insurance. Union membership went from a high of 36% to todays' 6%.

Didn't think so.

A player who wants to "compromise" while his or her opponent tries to win is going to lose.

Politicians always say they want to cooperate but behind closed doors they are discussing how to destroy the opposition if they can't co-opt them.

Not only did the repubs not cooperate at all, obama went ahead and gave them the deals they wanted...watering down legislation to garbage.

dumb is the substance of all of these threads.

Every president makes overt gestures to the opposite party when his ass has just been handed to him in a platter by the voters. Both sides promise collaboration and come January the knives come out and the fur starts flying again. It's politics, same old bull no matter who is in power.
