I am disgusted with the left. They are impatient, they fail to acknowledge incremental steps
They whine, they blame and now the left pundits like Shultz, Olberman, Huffington and people like Krugman continue to attack the president. Its a damn shame. We have a man who has kept his campaign promises, more than any other president in my lifetime, who despite a fractious congress bound and determined to thwart him and WITHOUT A TRUE MAJORITY IN THE SENATE was still able to pass landmark legislation and bring back the country from the brink of disaster. I blame the left for last night as much as the teabaggers. Until this country returns to rational thought again, this country is doomed to failure.

You get what you deserve.

signing off from politics is going to be better for my overall health. You all continue to enjoy picking each other and the president apart....

BTW...look at newspapers and news organizations coverage around the world today. America is again a laughingstock...and the sentiment crosses party lines. Americans overall are considered to be naive, uneducated and ridiculous.

They didn't do anything to counter the lies in their own districts. Robin Carnahan ran against Obama as much as any Republican or lefty. It's no wonder the entire state of Missouri went red. There wasn't anybody out there running FOR the Democrats.

That applies to everyone regardless of their political affiliation.

And it is the candidates that failed to present their case that they made the right decision and instead of standing by their decisions they blamed Obama.

22. Which explains why those who want to overturn Roe V Wade ...
continue to vote Republican. Over and over and over, in LARGE numbers.

The GOP has not delivered that. They have not privatized Social Security.

Does the right wing get discouraged? Its been decades for both ... the right wing base is still solid.

Compare that to the left ... we couldn't wait one year before our side started to bash Obama and claim "disappointment".

65. And now it's arrived. The centrists seem to forget that the left has been fighting .........
for some of these rights for over 60 years and we are always asked to compromise our beliefs so they can have theirs.

Health care is one that comes to mind. Almost everyone who is a true liberal or progressive believes in universal health-care - something we have been arguing for since the days of FDR - and we were willing to compromise universal health-care for a public option. What did we get in the end? Neither.

Perhaps it's you all in the center who aren't numerous enough to affect the election or are too wishy-washy to vote your values. Every left-leaning Democrat I know voted Democratic. It was the centrist Democrats and moderates who apparently re-elected Republican Lisa Murkowski here in Alaska.

30. those are hard cases
We were lucky in Delaware not to have that split. The moderate R did not run.

In a state as red as Alaska, how do you see getting a progressive Senator? Not going to happen by just name calling the centrists and independents, either.

But my point was the far left claiming that as alienated base they stayed home, then acting like victims because they got what they wanted.

62. Alright, let's look at the evidence ............
Obama blew 70+% of public support on a PO for HCR.

Obama failed to close Gitmo.

Obama failed to bring a close to the Iraq war.

Obama failed to make Canadian drugs available here in the US.

All of which he promised during his campaign, but failed to deliver on due to the fact that as soon as he took office he began to pivot to the center and believed that bipartisanship was better than fixing our country.

The evidence is pretty damn clear to me.

I think you give them too much credit. Nobody listens to their bullshit.

The vast majority of the far left held their noses and voted for what they perceived to be flawed Democratic candidates to avoid GOP rule.

45. We've had progressive senators in the past,
there's no reason why we can't have them again. Alaska is as much a victim of the Reagan/conservative revolution as any other state.

I have no doubt in my mind that if Lisa Murkowski hadn't run a write-in campaign and divided the moderate/left votes, we would have Senator Scott McAdams, not Senator Joe Miller. Scott's positives were much higher than either Lisa's or Joe's, and people liked the stands he has taken. Lisa won because everybody was afraid of Joe Miller, no other reason.

and those first two years were going to be the biggest majorities he would have while in office.

I had no doubt we were going to lose seats in both the Senate and House, but if Obama pushed his legislative agenda like he pushed his 2008 campaign then I am positive that our losses would not of been as bad as the bloodbath we took yesterday.

10. Blame the victims
The left got nothing in the last 2 years that they worked for in the 2008 campaign. They got an escalation in Afghanistan, a mandate for insurance, no public option, Gitmo open and going to stay open in Illinois, a military tribunal to convict a 15 year old, open carry in national forests, honored Rick Warren on day one, some disgusting legal defenses of DOMA, choosing to block the injunction on DADT, continuation of Bush's policies in Iraq, cointinuation of the Bush tax cuts, no drug price negotiations, no drug importation........

If you get nothing, you can't be expected to be a "fierce advocate".

Oh, and Krugman has a Nobel, from what point of expertise to you work?

Where's the proof they didn't bother to vote because the Democrats are not progressive enough. And that they are stupid enough to think staying away and letting Republicans win is going to result in more progressive legislation.

Because they didn't see any accomplishment in doing so. They voted, and basically got GOP lite. The independents saw themselves voting for one thing, and getting another, so they just figured they could vote for the other guys. Polls are already showing that 53% figure they'll be disappointed.

I am a proud member of the left. Our infighting is about those who prefer confrontation, loudness, and ideological purity and those who prefer comity and steps forward, accepting compromises if they are needed to progress.

We all believe in the same things: what we disagree on is tactics. That isn't going to change here. It's a style thing. We are all leftists, but we are definitely not all the same in how we achieve our goals.

You can blame the shitty message Obama & co sent out from 2008 on. They let the right wing set the tone AND the message. It certainly did NOT help with Obama & his aides abusing their natural supporters with idiotic comments blaming their core constituency that would only serve to depress the turnout of his base. No, it is most certainly NOT the fault of the left. Maybe we should all act like republicans & just shut up?

54. Get a clue.
Here's one for you: Americans aren't considered "naive, uneducated and ridiculous" across the globe because we're too left-wing. Your anger is entirely misdirected. You don't want this country to be a laughingstock any longer? Then stop voting for the idiots.

56. So, wimpy moderates can't convince the people that faux GOP Dems are better than real GOPrs...
And it's the Left's fault?

Good luck with that.

59. The angry left did some damage but I blame RW media more than anything.
They have lied, exaggerated and bashed the Democrats and the President non-stop for the past two years. We are witnessing the Fauxification of America.

64. I agree 110%!!!
Olbermann, Maddow, Schultz all attacked President Obama all year long. It's an ELECTION year! At the last minute they FINALLY trumpet all of his successes. Too late! You already turned off a BIG CHUNK of the democratic base with your whining!

The Health Care Law passed and they whined all during it and afterward, too.

STUPID!!!

66. People vote their pocketbooks. "It's the economy stupid," as Bill Clinton
so famously said. Yesterday's exit polls confirmed that the economy was by far the most important issue for voters, NOT what Olbermann, Schultz or Maddow say on TV.

Some people dont understand the desperation for some who have been unemployed for very long periods,

might be in their 40's or 50's cant find work, losing their homes cars and possibly their families.

They are desperate and will DO ANYTHING to try to change their situation even if it seems illogical or the wrong

choice to some here on DU.

92. I noticed that too and Ed Schultz was at it again yesterday!!
What exactly do they think they're doing with that?? Maybe the steps taken so far have been less than ideal but look at the political climate and they're in the right direction and how is bashing ourselves while being bashed by the Repubs and their wealthy allies a winning strategy?? What they need to do is trumpet the successes and explain to people how it benefits them in their daily lives. Yes, we need more but look at what we've done! All this talk about the deficit and no one says that Obama has actually cut the deficit...All this talk about healthcare and no one says how it helps people. I, for one, am ecstatic with the law so that I can have my son on my plan otherwise I'd be paying $600/month for COBRA. All this talk about jobs - why isn't someone with a platform out their saying that Obama has created more jobs in his time in office than Bush did in 8 years? Why isn't someone explaining why the stimulus is necessary...why we had to bail out companies and how it's actually working - how taxpayers are getting their money back in many cases sooner than even expected. Criticism is fine when it's meant to help improve a policy decision or to make a point but when it becomes just blind "nothing is good enough unless it's perfect by my definition" then who needs it?
Republicans are not afraid to go out and lie...Why are we afraid to go out and tell the truth?

Young people don't dig deep for information on the issues. My 22yr old has called me more than once asking why Olbermann, Moore, huff post etc. hate the president so much. Kids took their cue from them and didn't vote. Democrats could have done a better job in explainiing what the hell was going on..combating those assholes at town halls etc. But nope, we bash each other instead of working to make things better.

http://ussc.edu.au/Election-2010

Snip from one of the articles:

"But however much liberal activists may wish otherwise, the fact is America remains a centre-right nation. Two years ago, Gallup showed 40 per cent of Americans identifying themselves as conservatives, with only 20 per cent liberals. Since then, that disparity has widened: 54 per cent are self-described conservatives whereas only 18 per cent wear the liberal label. In such an environment, it is hardly surprising that an activist government agenda will generate resistance and a backlash – even among Democrats!"
http://ussc.edu.au/news-room/Left-liberal-lament

For reasons I will never understand, this is news to some people here.

If you insist that Congressional Democrats and the White House are not to blame for their own failed political strategy, you're going to be posting the same thing after those elections. Except that time, you'll also be wondering how we lost the presidency.

88. Speak for yourself, cabrone.
Obama has never gotten his back up and shown his principles. And you want us to keep supporting him blindly - why? Because the GOP is worse? How about we replace Obama with somebody who holds our views. He's headed for being a one-termer anyways, and I'd much rather see him destroyed by us than destroyed by the GOP, because if he's destroyed by the Republicans it will cast another shadow on people on the left side of the spectrum, the same shadows heaped on us for decades. We need to destroy the DLC traitors first and foremost. We don't need to focus our efforts on the GOP - they'll destroy themselves, and will do so in fairly short order anyways. This is our party, and we have to take it back.

Incremental change? Fuck that. What real change did we get so far? The economy is still a mess. We're still in Afghanistan. Wall Street is still robbing us blind then tossing us on the street. Gays and lesbians still don't have their rights. People are still sentenced to death by insurance companies.

If the President cannot deliver, we need to get somebody who can.

It's that simple.
