some good news for the IL governor's race (from the chicago trib)
The Quinn campaign said it does "not see a path to victory for Bill Brady."

"The ballots left to be counted appear mostly to come from Cook County, where the governor held a large margin over Sen. Brady. We expect to hold our lead, and may increase it," Quinn campaign spokeswoman Mica Matsoff said in a statement.

Quinn spent the morning at his Chicago home, consulting with election attorneys and campaign aides. He plans to go to his downtown state office early this afternoon.

Brady refused to say whether he knew where the outstanding precincts were located. "It's hard for us to tell."

The remarks came after Brady and key advisers huddled this morning in a Bloomington hotel to examine what the chances are of Brady winning a close race with thousands of ballots still to be counted from Tuesday's election.

The margin was enough for Quinn to proclaim a near-victory last night, while Brady is holding out hope he can make up the difference somehow.

1. Let us pray
It was a bad night here in Illinois. Keeping Brady out of the governor's mansion would be one bit of solace.

4. Brady's finished: Quinn up 9500 with only 1% of precincts in Cook County left
to report. Quinn actuially picked up votes on Brady in the other 1% of Cook that came in late.

Brady's banking on absentee and military, supposedly 30,000 outstanding, but he'd have to win 65% of those to make the difference up. He's done.

A decent man won the statehouse in Illinois.

5. Kicking...Quinn up almost 12,000 now, gaining votes in the outstanding precincts
Brady would have to take 66% of outstanding absentees just to pull even.

It's all over but the Tea Bagger crying.

6. OK so, how the fuck did this not help Giannoulias? Quinn was down by double digits.
Was it the crook label? Shitty campaigning? Rove's GPS money? Kirk successfully painting himself as a sane person? I guess all of the above.

9. Please, please, make it so
I've following this the whole day, and the numbers are barely budging. Having Kirk here is bad enough.
