Record Number of Gay Candidates Win

Gay Politics notes that more openly gay candidates won election to public office in 2010 than in any year in America's history.

At least 106 of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund's record-breaking 164 endorsed candidates were winners as of this morning, including Providence Mayor David Cicilline (D) who will become the fourth openly gay Member of Congress when the House convenes in January.

However, as the Des Moines Register reports, all three Iowa Supreme Court justices who voted to approve gay marriage in the state were defeated.

1. That's great news! There should be more, but this is a start.

3. That is wonderful news
I'm very pleased with our candidates...Jim Gray winning as mayor of Lexington, Ky was particularly nice. :-)

But I have to admit...last night was curiously like November 2008...Obama winning, but Prop 8 in California winning in the same night. The removal of the 3 Iowa Supreme Court justices last night wasn't inconsequential. That is seriously bad news for our fight for equality.

4. K&R.
I haven't heard that anywhere but that article. The TEEVEE does not want to alarm the populace of the invading horde? How irresponsible.

Thank you for this, I shall stock up on holy water.

Maybe Rachel (Maddow) :) will pick this up? Rach?

5. This just makes it all even more confusing.

I thought the public was careening to the right? Maybe I mean "complex" not "confusing".
