Anyone notice there is almost no coverage of Obama's trip
It almost seems like a news blackout. The (hated by me) Washington Post only mentions a few things on the business page in the context of the South Korea deal faltering. Normally, such a trip would push other things aside in the news cycle. Certainly it would be on the front page. It seems to me it is barely mentioned (now that we figured out it didn't cost 200 million a day).

1. NBC news last night ran with a story about what a huge failure it was for Obama
It was their feature 6:30 (EST) piece.

2. The ony failure is the South Korea deal
which is a big deal to have not secured. But he did pretty well in India from what I can tell.

3. Seriously
where the hell did this 200 million a day story come from? Did it come from the Huffington post? I was not paying attention to the news or DU the day that "story" broke. Did people seriously post that crap here on DU?

4. Just what did he accomplish newsworthy?
I mean he goes to India and says yest we will send you the rest of our IT jobs and no you don't have to let Wilmar build any stores in India or let Citibank open any branches in India. Then you can join the UN security council?

Then he goes to Korea, fails are a trade agreement and cannot convince the rest of the world that he is devaluing the dollar. Come on people, this is a shellacking just like the election. And it hat were he he said bring on the republican tax cuts for the rich?

11. the MSM sees how easy it was for them to make the last election happen as it did
They will spend the next 2 years trying to take Obama down.

But they will be surprised in 2012 when, despite all their efforts to tell us what is going to happen, Obama is still victorious.

12. Perhap network news.
NYT covered it. WashPo covered it.

It made a big splash when he was welcomed with accolades. When he had triumphed. When Michelle showed she could dance.

The India trip was converted into a "the US supports others" and "the President is trying to spin his trip to be all about American jobs." The former is nice, newsworthy, and basically says that we're trying to exit gracefully but mostly trying to exit. The latter is ridiculous pandering.

The G-20 summit was essentially a failure. The blather that resulted amounts to a bucket of warm piss. It could have been worse, but let's not confuse the lack of abject failure with stunning victory. QE2 didn't make a whole lot of people overseas happy.

When the paeans ended, much of the positive coverage ended and the trip got the same kind of coverage *'s trips got. Who, what, where, when, and why. "Woo-hoo" is not a wh-word, and what woo-hoo there was was *personal*, not presidential. It's nice that everybody loves Obama and he scores victories, that he's given an award for his mother; it's far better that the president have some pull and score victories. When the personal and the presidential were separated, the chants of woo-hoo died down because all the woo-hoo was personal. Lack of "woo-hoo" does not constitute disrespect.

16. Washington Post barely touched it
Very little on the front page, nothing in the past two days that wasn't buried way, way in.

13. Honestly I hope Obama spends less time traveling abroad in the next two years
Obviously he needs to do some, but it seems to me he has gone abroad quite a bit in his first two years as president. But then again he is much more popular abroad than he is currently at home.

20. Even President Roosevelt traveled during the Great Depression and WWII
http://www.fdrlibrary.marist.edu/facts.html

Scroll to the middle of the page....

I would rather my President travel and try to fix world relations than be on the record as taking the most vacation time in history, especially during inappropriate times.

17. Unless It's A Lie - Like The NY Post Lie About
Obama being AWOL on Veterans Day - it's a nasty piece of work by some guy named Charles Hurt. Says he spent Veterans Day in Indonesia with their army. Funny, I watch POTUS speaking to several thousand Vets in S. Korea thanking them for their service on Veterans Day. They cheered him on and tried to get his picture, or shake his hand But you wouldn't know this, because it was late at night here - Gosh it was probably 11:00PM in NY - Mr. Hurt was no doubt sleeping, and in Murdoch's world, if you're sleeping, it didn't happen.

19. Well, it's not very exciting. I've seen a few things, but changed the channel.
Things have changed since "news" changed to "programs for ratings." They go for the attention-getting flashy stories. I love Obama, but I don't find those overseas trips very exciting, no matter who the President is.

26. The "liberal" media will try to take Obama down in 2012...
and will fail miserably. I predict that that Obama will win by a landslide (at least 55% of the vote), and I also predict that the Democrats will gain a large number seats in the House and Senate.
