Al From of the DLC and the Far Center WON. Stop saying the far center does not win!
http://www.dlc.org/ndol_ci.cfm?kaid=85&subid=900184&contentid=255028

"Democrats are today as powerful as they have been in nearly a half-century...By 2008, the Kos "netroots" generally liberal, well-educated, mostly white and urbane Democratsseemed the demographic and political heirs to McGovern. The common frame, liberal "netroots" versus moderate DLC, was a continuation of the old battle."

I agree with this 100%- these are the exact people that Obama was talking about when he had to scold the disloyal "professional left."

"The Kos bloggers rose during the decline of the GOP majority. It explained their emboldened tone. Republicans' electoral blowouts in recent decades, the DLC's formative environment, were foreign to the "netroots." And without the humility of great defeats, Kos became an arena of liberal purists as well. The bloggers particularly emulated the antiwar left of McGovern's day."

EXACTLY. Easy to puff out your chest and say "We need to be more far left like McGovern, Carter, Che, Dukakis and Patty Hearst" when you are behind your keyboard, but quite another to say this when it is time to find common goals by working with Reagan Democrats, far-centrists, center rights and conservative Democrats.

"But by the 2008 campaign, even Obamawho once said he "probably would not have supported" welfare reformwas running ads celebrating the reduction in welfare roles. Just as Clinton went from working for McGovern to leading the pushback against McGovernites, Obama has also moved to From's side of the debate. And even the DLC's adversaries have noticed. One Daily Kos headline asked in May: "Did the DLC win after all?" It appears so."

Well, read it and weep. And now DLCers PROUDLY walk the halls of the WH and the congress, ready to roll up their sleeves and do what must be done to work with the other side. And where are the Moveons & Kos kids? Oh- that is right- behind their key boards!

61. The far center was just radically marginalized electorally.
Your imprimatur was the kiss of death for a lot of moderate Democrats and virtually all your members in the House of Representatives. If one were to view the DLC/Third-way/NDN corporeally, one could say that while it might not be dead, it is metastatically terminal...it's got too many fatal errors to not die. Please do us a favor and let it die quickly.

The DLC's Friedmanist economics: dead.
The DLC's positional moderation of social issues: zeroed.
The DLC's ability to hold together a center-left coalition to make Democrats viable: non-extant.

It's over for you, you had a good run but it's time to bury the corpse of the NDN/3rd-way/DLC. It's starting to smell funny and exposed putrefaction causes epidemics of preventable diseases.

It does not take a genius to see that the political landscape is hardening with a radical shift to the extremes. To go centrist (in either tent) is to lose...we will lose if the President and Congress doesn't start bailing on you and the rest of the "far center".

so it won't be Republican control but Money Inc control. The ownership class donates to both parties for a reason. Both parties are currying favor with the same people.

We don't stand a chance if we don't weed the bad ones out, even if it takes us 6 years and it looks like there are only a few good ones worth keeping. If we don't pump up the volume, we're lost. And more of these clowns will be strutting down the hallways toasting each other in bipartisanship.

58. One more time, No Center, No Centrists...
No Center, No Centrists
George Lakoff

"Centrism" is the creation of an inaccurate self-serving metaphor, and it is time to bury it.

There is no left to right linear spectrum in the American political life. There are two systems of values and modes of thought -- call them progressive and conservative (or nurturant and strict, as I have). There are total progressives, who use a progressive mode of thought on all issues. And total conservatives. And there are lots of folks who are what I've called "biconceptuals": progressive on certain issue areas and conservative on others. But they don't form a linear scale. They are all over the place: progressive on domestic policy, conservative on foreign policy; conservative on economic policy, progressive on foreign policy and social issues; conservative on religion, but progressive on social issues and foreign policy; and on and on. No linear scale. No single set of values defining a "center." Indeed many of such folks are not moderate in their views; they can be quite passionate about both their progressive and conservative views.

Barack Obama has it right: Get rid of the very idea of the right and the left and the center. American ideas are fundamentally progressive ideas -- the ideas this country was founded on and that carry forth that spirit. Progressives care about people and the earth, and act with responsibility and strength on that care...

I agree with this article. We are all progressives, no matter what.

We can be "progressive on domestic policy, conservative on foreign policy; conservative on economic policy, progressive on foreign policy and social issues; conservative on religion, but progressive on social issues and foreign policy; and on and on."

Does not matter how conservative or how Liberal a Democrat- they are STILL progressives with "American Ideas", no matter what. So long as the Liberal keeps his unpopular ideas quiet.

This is what I was trying to say the other day in my big tent speech- that all Democrats have the exact same goals and "American Ideas", no matter how Liberal or how conservative they may be.

This why Liberals need to back down and let far centers do whatever needs to be done- b/c we are all progressives and we all share the exact same American Ideas, no matter what.

69. Throwing dirt in the face of people under the same tent as
you will certainly win you no supporters-- Even the DLC knows that.

Maybe you should take a lesson or two from the people you claim are walking the halls.

What you are doing is incredibly devisive and not constructive at all. You really sound like a right winger -- which, btw, doesn't do a hellova lotta good for the DLC or for centrists. You sound just as bad as some *progressives*.

70. I'm sorry that you do not like the article from the DLC's official website,
Maybe Mother Jones is more your speed?

LOL! Take a lesson from DLCers? I have. I proudly quote their webtext here for all to see.

What do you mean this is not something the DLC would say? It's direct quotes from their own website- which is where I get all my best strategies.

73. You are sorry for nothing.
What you are is offensive -- IMO, of course.

77. If you dislike the DLC article from the DLC website, maybe you should also take it up with the DLC.

All I'm doing is quoting it and agreeing with it.

Dont act like it is just me- I'm just agreeing with much of the party leadership.

You say I should try to act more like DLCers? LOL! I'm quoting them from their own website!

76. Dude you cited an article from 2009. Centrists lost the most out of all the factions of the party
in congress. I said it before we won't be able to win and actually do anything big if we follow the DLC. Without the left we're just in this for the power and that's not enough.
