Evan Bayh has spoken
Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) said the proliferation of alternative Democratic proposals from the Hill “temporarily makes things more difficult, but at the end of the day, I don’t think it changes what the ultimate outcome would be” – a temporary extension of all the tax rates.

“Congress is the institution that has to act,” Bayh said. “The president can only do so much. It is this place that ultimately has to act on it.”

1. Senator Feinstein
completely disagrees.

Senator Feinstein Pushes for Extension of Tax Cuts for Middle Class Families

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today said that Congress should swiftly and permanently extend tax cuts for middle class families while allowing similar tax cuts for upper-income individuals to expire.

"Middle-class Americans are really struggling right now, but this economy has been very good to upper-income individuals and the well-to-do. I don't see the logic in delaying tax cuts for middle class Americans as part of an effort to make sure that the rich get richer. I would caution my Republican colleagues against holding middle-class tax cuts hostage for the benefit of the two percent of Americans who have the privilege to be wealthy. If taxes rise on middle class Americans due to these obstruction tactics, the opposition party will be responsible."

2. Yes. The Dianne Feinstein who's up for re-election in 2012.

And, who is pretty sure the Democrats don't have the votes in the Senate to pass stand-alone permanent middle-class tax cuts.

3. Good,
whatever it takes. I prefer her message to Bayh's moronic one.

If the vote fails, it fails, but that's no reason to push a stupid plan.

5. Let's have a vote on stand-alone permanent middle class tax cuts.
To hell with Evan Bayh and his ilk!

11. The House is unlikely to send them such a bill to vote on.
I'm not sure that such a bill would even get 51 votes during the lame duck session... let alone get past a filibuster.

12. The Senate will go first on Bush tax cut extensions. That's the present plan.

16. How? The bill clearly deals with the raising of revenue.
And therefore must originate in the House.

9. It's ultimately up to Obama... so let's see if he has the moxie to actually fight for something.
Or if he shows his weakness, as usual.

4. Bayh is in his own world. He is like Bush 41 in that he doesn't know the price of milk or bread.

This does confirm what a lot of us on DU have been saying and that is the Blue Dog's and Conserva-Dem's WANT to extend the tax cuts for the uber-wealthy. They always have.

Only hope, as usual, is with the Democratic Progressive Caucus holding the line.

8. I recall when former DLC chairman Bayh was Hillary's top campaign surrogate.

DLC birds of a feather and all....

Thank goodness none of them are in a real position to create domestic policy anymore.

13. Ugh. Evan Bayh, Joe Lieberman and Bill Clinton are all former DLC Chairmen.
Edited on Thu Nov-18-10 01:26 PM by ClarkUSA
I hope Democrats don't fall into the trap of putting Hillary into the WH in 2016 or else we'll see Evan Bayh as VP. Mark my words, that's who Hillary would choose in order to gain red state cred in the Midwest. Why do you think Bayh was her top surrogate? He was trying out for the part prior to Obama's ascendency.

Never again.

14. If a tree falls in the forest...
...and no one's around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Sure it does. It's just that no one gives a shit. (Provided one isn't located in said forest where said tree falls.)

Same concept here with Mr. Bayh. Cipher.

15. Bayh Has No Long Term Political Future
The Dem base won't support him for any national office, and Republicans won't accept him. He is a Lieberman, a politician on an island by himself.
