On Leadership and Compromise: A Letter from the Left....
Dear President Obama:

You cannot lead on an issue without taking a hard and well-defined position. Crying out "Compromise!" is not a rallying call. No one is going to back you when you continually give away everything preemptively. Get real! You are not supposed to be the facilitator of the compromise. You are supposed to have the interests of the USA and your base at heart. You are supposed to find a way to lead the other side to agree with you or, at least, to compromise with you - that is, if you actually believe that you have the right policy ideas. If you cannot do that, you are supposed to seize the message and get the other side voted out of office by convincing the public that your position is beneficial to them. (In case you do not realize it, that is exactly why you were "shellacked" in the last election.)

Reviewing your accomplishments so far: you have had some marginal successes, but largely you have failed badly:

the Lack of Investigating Bush, Cheney, Yoo et al and their Use of Torture
the Prevention of Spain from Investigating the Bush Administration (Thank you, Wikileaks!)
the Continuing Use of Guantanamo Bay
the Continuing Presence in Iraq
the Continuing Presence in Afghanistan
the Lack of Meaningful Health Care Reform - i.e., the "Historic" Bungle that is Health Insurance Reform with a Mandate
Et cetera

If you continue this form of political malpractice that you call governing, it would be better if you would chose not to run for a second term, so that the Democratic Party can find a candidate who will actually stand for Democratic principles.

All the Best,

xocet

1. More important, there's a difference between compromising
and compromising oneself.
